[NEW] How to transfer emails to Namecheap Private Email account

This article is valid for Private Email subscriptions purchased on or after June 2, 2026.

Want to migrate business email? At the moment, there is only one way to migrate your emails to Private Email: using the email clients.

1. To start, add your old email account to the client using the settings from your previous provider.

2. Then, to get the required settings for the Private Email account, please do the following: access the Private Email account via https://privateemail.com

3. Click Manage configuration ? IMAP/SMTP/POP3 ? View Configuration to get the details to configure an email client.

You can also use the following configuration details:

  • Username: full Private Email address
  • Password: password for this email account
  • Incoming/Outgoing server:mail.privateemail.com
  • IMAP server port: 993
  • SMTP server port: 465
  • Connection security: SSL

NOTE: We suggest using IMAP connections for both email accounts instead of POP3 to sync both of your email accounts for the transfer:

  • IMAP keeps everything in sync: It leaves the original emails on the server, meaning your folders, read/unread statuses, and messages will look exactly the same across all your devices.

  • POP3 is risky for transfers: It downloads the emails to one specific device and often deletes them from the server, which can lead to missing data during a migration.

4. Use any email client (we recommend Thunderbird) to add both the mailboxes you want to migrate from and to to a single interface. More specific guidelines can be found here.

5. Within the email client, select all messages in your old account and move them (by simply dragging and dropping) from your old inbox folder into your new inbox folder. You can move subfolders the same way to keep your folder structure intact. The process may take a while, depending on the number of messages.

That’s it!
