Nursing Audit
It is the evaluation of nursing care through analysis of nursing records. An exercise to find out good nursing practice. Uses a record as an aid in evaluating the quality of patient care.
TYPES OF NURSING AUDIT:
1. Internal Auditing
- Consist of abstracting and classifying clinical records and evaluating quality of care for client. - Done continously (Nursing staff)
2. External Auditing
- performs an audit on the financial statements of a hospital (including Tax).
- Periodically done by medical administrator from professional bodies or agencies.
Internal Audit
Retrospective Audit - examines the nursing care as it is reflected in the patient care records for discharged patients. - also known as closed chart audit.
Concurrent Audit - Evaluation is conducted on behalf of patient who are still undergoing care. - Used to assess the past and present care given to a client. - Also known as open chart Audit.
Peer Review - It appraise quality of care or practice performed by others equally qualified nurses. Types: 1. Individual peer review focuses on
the performance of individual nurse.
2. Nursing
focuses on evaluating nursing care through review of records.

An established but sometimes fragmented, core activity of in patient care during which decision are made and tasks allocated that aid the daily running of wards.
Nurses role during rounds:
