Mathemtian and Astronomer - The Strategy of Discovering Laplace Transform Was To Solve

The document provides an introduction to Laplace transforms. It defines the Laplace transform as a function that converts one type of problem into another form to simplify it. The Laplace transform was discovered by Pierre-Simon Laplace in the late 18th century. The procedure for using Laplace transforms is to convert an initial value problem into an algebra problem, solve the algebra problem, and use the solution to solve the initial value problem. The document then provides the basic definition of the Laplace transform as an integral from 0 to infinity of e^-st f(t) dt. It also states that the Laplace transform is a linear operation, so the Laplace transform of a sum of functions is equal to the sum of the individual Laplace transforms.

Chapter 1 1.

Introduction to Laplace Transform In mathematics Laplace transform is a usual device which is used to convert one type of problem in to another form problem .It is the function which simplify any type of problem. Laplace transform discovered by pierre simon delaplace in ( 1749-1827) and He was noted French Mathemtian and astronomer.The strategy of discovering Laplace transform was to solve transformations problem using laplace transform function. The procedure in case of using laplace transform is as follows; Initial value probem=>Algebra problem =>solution of the algebra problem =>solution of the initial value problem.this procedure is important in case of solving mathematical prolem. 1.1BASIC DEFITION OF LAPLACE TRANSFORM Definition 1.1 Laplace Transform is a function denoted by L{f(t)} and defined by

L{f(t)}(s) =limt e -stf(t)dt for all s It is congervent.

Example 1.1 Evaluate l {1}

Solution f(t) =1, l {t} = e -stf(t)dt

0

l {1}=limb e -st( 1) dt =limb -e-st /s |b0

0

limb -e-st /s +1 = 1/s provided s >0 Definition 1.2 L is a linear operation for a sum of functions we can write as follows

-st -st -st e * f(t)+ g(t)+ dt = e f(t)dt + e g(t)dt

Whenever both integral convergent.Hence ot follows that L{ f(t)+g(t)-= L, f(t)-+ L,g(t)-= F(s) + G(S)
