WHAT IS ICT?
three words behind ICT: - Information - Communication - Technology It is a term that includes any communication devices or applications e.g. radio, television, cell phones, computer, satellite systems as well as the various services and applications associated with them, such as videoconferencing (Skype) and distance/online learning.

Impact of ICT on different areas.


1. Education. 2. Healthcare

3. Society

IMPACT ON SOCIETY:
Positive:
increase in access to information leads to better, and cheaper communications. E.g: instant messaging. Improved education system e.g. distance learning and on-line tutorials.

IMPACT ON SOCIETY
Negative:
Job loss-Manual operations being replaced by automation. e.g. robots replacing people. Reduced personal interaction- people need social interaction in their daily lives and if they don't meet and talk with other people they may feel alone and unhappy.

Positive:

IMPACT ON EDUCATION:

1. Quicker-less time consuming. 2. Updated information. 3. Less expensive-no need of buying books. 4. Takes less capacity- all books stored in one laptop.

IMPACT ON EDUCATION
Negative:
1. Reliance on spell check and grammar features of word processing-lower literacy skills. 2. Copying and pasting quantities of information rather than making your own notes. 3. Overuse of images rather than being creative by yourself 4. Use of calculators- no mental skills

IMPACT ON HEALTH:
Negative factors:

Eyes Strain. Back and neck ache. Repetitive strain injury in wrist and in hands.

ONLINE LEARNING :
Positive: 1.Time Saving 2.Studying from anywhere 3.Comfort Level 4.Cost Factor 5.Beneficial for slow Learners 6.Lesser Distractions

ONLINE LEARNING :
Negative: 1. Lack of Interaction 2. Technology problems. 3. Lack of interaction. 4. Lack of Motivation. 5. Narrow choice. 6. Lack of opportunities to develop Oral Communication Skills

1. Write in your own words the impact of ICT on our society. 2. If the students make use of ICT, is it good for them?
