About ODHISA

Odisha , formally known as Orissa, is an Indian state on the subcontinent's east coast, by the Bay of Bengal. It is surrounded by the Indian states of West Bengal , Jharkhand to the north, Chhattisgarh to the west and Andhra Pradesh to the south.

It is the modern name of the ancient kingdom of Kalinga.


The modern state of Orissa was established on 1 April 1936. Bhubaneswar is the state capital. 9th largest state by area in India. 11th Largest state in terms of Population

Major industries Steel, Aluminum, Power, Cement, Mineral-based, Paper, Higher Education. Odisha has abundant natural resources and a large coastline. India's topmost IT consulting firms, including Mahindra Satyam, Tata Consultancy Services, MindTree Consulting, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Infosys have large branches in Odisha. The state is home to several famous temples, such as the Lingaraj temple and the Kedareshwar temple in Bhubaneswar, Jagannath temple and Gundicha temple in Puri and the Sun temple in Konark.

The dominant ethnic group is the Oriya people, and Oriya is the official language. Odissi (Orissi) dance and music are classical art forms. Odissi is the oldest surviving dance form in India. Odisha's food habit is actually the horizon between the South Indian food habit and the North Indian food habits. Dosas, Vadas and idlis, Poori- Chole, Samosa's are famous. Rasagullas are very famous sweets.
