Gas Calorific Value Conversion Guide

This document provides formulas for converting gas calorific values between different temperature and pressure conditions. The first formula is for converting a value given at a certain temperature and pressure to a normal/standard value at 0°C and 1 atmosphere. The second formula provides the conversion in the opposite direction, from the normal value to the value at specified non-standard temperature and pressure conditions. An example calculation is shown for each direction.

Conversion of gas calorific value Hi to normal conditions H0 (0°C, 1 atm):

273.15 + t ( o C) 1.01325
H0 = Hi ⋅ ⋅
273.15 p (bar)

Example: Given by the supplier: 10000 kcal/m3 (20°C, 1 bar)

Ho = 10000. 273.15 +20 . 1.01325 = 10847.4001 kcal/Nm3

273.15 1

Conversion of normal gas calorific value H0 (0°C, 1 atm) to gas calorific value at
other conditions Hi:

273.15 p (bar)
Hi = H0 ⋅ ⋅
273.15 + t ( C) 1.01325
o

Example: 10000 kcal/Nm3 at 25°C and 1.5 bar?

.
Hi = 10000. 273.15 . 1.5 = 13562.54 kcal/m3
273.15 +25 1.01325
