1.3 use history to explain relationships
Content Objective (ACSD 14):
Recognize the compromises, laws, and judicial opinions made as
an attempt to hold the Union of States together including, (The
Compromise of 1850, The Fugitive Slave Law, The Kansas-
Nebraska Act, The Dred Scott Decision.)
Language Objective:
Students will read an article
Students will listen and talk about new vocabulary
Students will write in their double entry diary
Student Outcomes (what should students know and be able to do?):
Students will understand a series of events and laws that led to the Civil
war
Students will apply thinking/reading skills by creating a Double Entry
Diary
Students will Collaborate on Google Docs to create a Double Entry Diary

Lesson 1. Students will be assigned a leveled reading on one of the
Sequence: events leading to the Civil War
2. Students will read the text and code the text with: I
wonder and I think statements
3. Students will create a table on Google Docs that they will
“share” with someone that has the same article
4. Students will put in WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHY, HOW
of the event together in one column. In the second column
they will explain how the event would lead to war.
