Kia ora koutou
The term is flying by. I guess that is what happens when you are having fun. There is certainly never a dull
moment at Paihia School. :)

Last week all classes enjoyed learning about road safety with Constable Rob Drummond and their
teachers. The Big Wheels, Little Wheels day was very exciting. It was great to see so many students bring
their bike, skateboard or scooter to school. We did go through a few sticking plasters because of the races
Constable Rob instigated but overall it was a successful day. It is so important our students are safe on the
road as riders and/or pedestrians.

I had intended to send out further consultation last week but got distracted with behaviour that concerned
me greatly. Thank you so much to all the parents who have expressed their support for a strong stance
against fighting. I will continue to do my best to make Paihia School a safe happy place.

This week I would like to share with you the general results of the consultation I sent out several weeks ago.
The following are those things that more than one person commented on. For the full results please see the
office noticeboard.
(a) weaknesses of Paihia School: lack of leadership roles especially for senior students, lack of te reo
Maori, lack of ICT, lack of respect, bullying and unpleasant toilets.
(b) The positives are overwhelmingly the teachers, followed by the friendliness, good parent involvement,
open door policy, community spirit and the special events that the school is involved in such as gala days,
sports, Christmas parade, gardening, etc.
(c) Suggestions for the future include teaching te reo Mori, camps, having high expectations, retaining our
Year 7 & 8s, no bullying, teaching more music, and having ICT devices for learning.

Some of these ideas require further consultation as I am aware people have different opinions. What I can
promise you is that we will consider all viewpoints. Therefore I have attached some further questions about
some topical issues so I can get a better idea of where to lead your school. I look forward to once again
reading your ideas. I would also like to have a Paihia School community meeting early next term.

Have a great week. Ka pai ou wiki kouotou katoa. Ka kite.

New Lunch Menu
We are excited to be offering some new healthy options for the students lunches.
The old menu will only be available on Mondays now with a new healthy twist. Flavoured milks go off the
menu and each lunch order will be accompanied by a piece of fruit instead.
We will continue to provide sushi and noodle soup on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
On Wednesdays and Fridays we have a new range of freshly made sandwiches and filled rolls from our local
bakery. The prices for the freshly made food are what we pay our local suppliers, so the school does not profit
from this service. We are extremely grateful to our local business owners who are supporting us with reasonable
prices and delivery to the school.

Breakfast Club
Thanks to some wonderful volunteers, we are able to offer breakfast before school to any children who need it.
There is no need to go to class hungry. We are also lucky to receive donations of fruit each week and these are
offered to children who need a bit extra at morning tea and lunch times.
.
Public Health Nurse
Phone Trish Watson on 021432081 if you need advice or assistance on your childs health. She visits the school regularly
on a Wednesday morning.
Nitenz head lice treatments available at the office - $5 each to clear.
