Use Model
A basi c HP Advanced Desi gn
System use model i s as fol l ows:
1. You create a schemati c and
then run a si mul ati on,
whi ch generates a dataset.
The dataset i s wri tten i nto
the data di rectory wi th a
.ds sufx.
2. You open a data di spl ay
wi ndow to vi ew the resul ts
of the si mul ati on.
3. After vi ewi ng the si mul a-
ti on resul ts, you may save
the data di spl ay wi ndow as
a .dds l e.
Some users nd i t easi est
to keep schemati c,
dataset, and data di spl ay
names i denti cal . Thi s way,
i t i s easy to determi ne
whi ch si mul ati on set-up
was used to generate a par-
ti cul ar data di spl ay.

Categorizing Designs
What do you do i f you deci de
that the numerous schemati cs
i n a parti cul ar project need to
be categori zed i nto subdi recto-
ri es for better organi zati on?
The program does not al l ow
subdi rectori es i n the networks
di rectory, so somethi ng el se
must be done. Here are two
sol uti ons:
I n the Mai n wi ndow, copy
the project (File > Copy
Project), and del ete
unwanted desi gns from the
new project (File > Delete
Design).
To del ete unwanted
datasets, use the Data Di s-
pl ay wi ndow command
File > Delete Dataset.
I f you have subci rcui ts that
you want to be abl e to
access from two projects,
but you do not want to
keep two copi es, sel ect
File > Open then File
Include > Remove Projects
to enabl e you to access
desi gns i n project B from
project A.
Al ternati vel y, you can cre-
ate a new project and just
copy desi gns from the ori g-
i nal project i nto the new
one (Copy Design i n the
Mai n wi ndow).
You wi l l have to use an
operati ng system l e man-
ager to move or copy
datasets and data di spl ay
l es.
