Monitored the effects of livestock and wildlife grazing on a sagebrush steppe ecosystem.
Used transects and point-line intersect vegetation sampling methods to compare differences inside and outside
wildlife and livestock exclosures.

Mountain Plover Field Research Technician, Assisting Maggie Riordan (M.S. Candidate U. of Montana)
Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Fort Collins, CO. March 2012 July 2012
Study examined chick mortality and potential factors influencing recruitment of mountain plovers on private
lands in eastern Colorado.
Located and monitored nests on private land using maps and GPS.
Captured, handled, banded, and obtained blood samples from adults and chicks.
Attached radio transmitters to adults and chicks and monitored movement using radio telemetry.
Monitored weather events, temperature, and humidity using weather stations and ibutton data recorders.

Pika Citizen Scientist
Front Range Pika Project, Denver, CO. August 2011
Hiked to designated Pika habitat sites using a GPS to observe animal presence and record habitat data.
Submitted data to assist with a collaborative research project organized by Amy Masching at the Denver Zoo.

Conservation and Land Management Intern, Assisting Scott Jensen, Wildlife Biologist

Collected, mapped, and conducted germination studies of native seed to help enhance habitat for deer, elk,
antelope and other herbivores in the Great Basin ecosystem.
Collaborated with wildlife biologists, botanists, and range technicians from the U.S. Forest Service as well as
the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources to identify target plant species to collect for germination studies and
accurately map their distributions.
Performed physical work involved in planting, weeding, and harvesting seeds as well as collecting field data
from germination sites to assist with plant research.
Built a new master database for the Shrub Lab using Microsoft Access.
Mastered importing and exporting GPS information and other collection site characteristics from HanDBase
and BG-Base data software, Microsoft Excel, and DeLorme Topo 5.0 mapping software.
Worked in the lab testing the pH, texture, and color of about 300 soil samples, mounting herbarium vouchers,
and cleaning seed.

Interpreted the life history, physiology, behavior, and ecological value of marine life to the public to help them
understand the value of conserving marine environments.
Handled and fed several species of marine animals including crustaceans, echinoderms, cnidarians, and the
Giant Pacific Octopus in front of the public in order to demonstrate their eating habits and behaviors.

Burying Beetle Research Technician, Assisting Dr. Rosemary Smith, Professor of Biology

Researched the ecology and behavior of three species of burying beetle (Nicrophorus investigator, N. guttula,
and N. defodiens).
Trapped, measured, and marked beetles and small rodents in the field for population censuses.
Performed controlled laboratory breeding experiments with N. investigator to understand mating behaviors and
survival statistics for overwintering pupae.
Used Microsoft Excel to enter all data and further understand data relationships.
