Give antibiotic: ERYTHROMYCIN
Alternative: Ampicillin
Give corticosteroids if no sign of
infection
Betamethasone 12 mg IM q 24 hrs x 2 doses

Dexamethasone 6 mg IM q 12 x 4 doses

Judicious Antibiotic Use: The


Evidence

PPROM (prolonged rupture of


membrane): Prolong pregnancy and
reduce neonatal morbidity in women
with gestation of 34 weeks
PTL (preterm labor): Little evidence of
benefit at a gestation 34 weeks.
Reduced the incidence of early onset
neonatal sepsis but caused ampicillinresistance and severe neonatal
infections
