Environmental Management
September April 2015
An Environmental Management System (EMS) was developed in conformance with ISO
14001 requirements. This process included constructing an initial environmental review,
an environmental policy, benchmarking and base lining, an analysis of aspects and
impacts, the development of environmental targets and objectives, as well as a proposed
action plan.
An EMS audit was conducted in order to assess conformance with ISO 14001, and a report
produced for the recipient of the audit.
The key elements of a corporate social responsibility will be designed, developed and a
report created.
Organizational Sustainability

The components of an Environmental Management System (EMS) will be developed and
implemented.
A carbon management strategy will be designed and implemented in order to work
towards reduction goals.
Various carbon emissions reduction strategies will be developed and suggested to
businesses looking to reduce their carbon footprint. An action plan and checklist will be
constructed and provided to assist businesses.
Environmental Audits
January April 2015
A carbon footprint audit will be conducted using Scopes 1, 2 and 3 in order to identify and
quantify carbon emissions from various buildings/businesses.
A Solid Non-Hazardous Waste Audit will be completed according to Regulation 102/94, and
a report outlining our findings prepared in an accurate and timely manner.
An energy audit will be completed in order to become familiar with the tools required to
measure energy consumption. The key components of energy consumption in a variety of
different building scenarios will be addressed, and the findings reported on.
A water audit will be completed in order to learn the appropriate tools used to measure
the components of a water footprint. The water usage data was compiled and reported on.
Environmental Laws and Regulations

Gained a familiarity with federal, provincial and municipal legislation including (but not
limited to): the Environmental Protection Act (EPA), the Canadian Environmental Protection
Act (CEPA), the Ontario Water Resources Act (OWRA), the Fisheries Act, Safe Drinking
Water Act, and the Nutrient Management Act.
Comfortable with legal procedures such as permits, approvals, manifests, licenses, etc.
Possesses a strong understanding of due diligence as well as how to assess and maintain
regulatory compliance as a crucial part of the business.
Health and Safety
September December 2014
Developed a strong understanding of the rights and responsibilities outlined in the
Occupational Health and Safety Act. Effective translation of the Act and its regulations
was applied to different work situations.
Completion and presentation of a health and safety audit regarding a designated
substance in a workplace.
A written assessment report was constructed, as well as a comprehensible presentation
in order to communicate the information and safe handling to present workers.
Waste Management

A Solid Non-Hazardous Waste Audit is currently in the process of completion according to
Regulation 102/94, and a report outlining our findings prepared in an accurate and timely
manner.
Familiar with relevant waste management legislation including Ontario Regulation 347,
101/94, 102/94, 103/94, 104/94, 105/94 and Bill 91.
Possesses a strong understanding of each component of an integrated waste
management system including prevention, collection/transportation, diversion and
disposal.
Able to characterize the elements of collection and processing in a municipal recycling
system as well as calculate waste generation rates.
Environmental Site Assessment
September December 2014
Developed and completed a Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment that is in compliance
with a combination of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Phase I Environmental
Site Assessment Standard Z768-01and Ontario Regulation 153/04. The scope of work
included a review of historical records, interviews with key stakeholders, site
reconnaissance, and analysis of site images and plans.
A Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessment work plan was created under the CSA Z769
Standard.
Health and Safety management was planned for both the Phase I and Phase II projects,
with any potential issues identified and addressed.
Field Sampling and Analysis
September- December 2014
Sampling experience includes: soil sampling, water sampling, and benthic invertebrate
sampling. Possesses knowledge of the different tools and best practices for each media.
Assembled the components of a field sampling plan, while developing site-specific work
plans which included Quality Assurance/Quality Control methods (QA/QC).
Potential risks to human health, hazards, financial loss, social impact, legal liabilities and
public perception were noted and addressed. Identifying these risks was essential to the
planning and execution of this project.
A Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) classification system was
completed for a local site.
Niagara Environmental Corps
September 2014 April 2015
Active member of the sustainability club at Niagara College.
Attends weekly meetings and participates in volunteer opportunities in order to increase
awareness of sustainability in our community.
Brock University Science Mentorship Program
September 2009 - June 2010
Participation in Dr. Alan Castles research laboratory at Brock University for over a year to
develop a means of preserving microorganisms to be marketed as a bio-bactericide for
fire blight in apple and pear trees.
The purpose of using microorganisms already present in the environment was to create
an environmentally friendly alternative to pesticides.
My project won various awards such as the Canadian Federation of University Women
Award, a U.S. Army Reserve Award as well as the Science Mentorship Award.

Worked with carbon accounting software in order to provide clients with accurate and
valuable strategies.
