If the ultimate shear stress for the mild steel plate is 300 MPa, determine the
force required in kN to punch a 12 mm hole in a plate which is 8 mm thick.
Also Calculate the compressive stress induced in the punch.

Calculate change in length of a bar as shown in the figure (1). Take E=2105
N/mm2.
A RCC column of 250 mm is reinforced with 6 bars of 22 mm . If the
column is subjected to an axial load of 875 kN, calculate the stress developed
in each material. Take modular ratio of 12.
OR
A steel rod 1000mm long and 20mm in diameter is subjected to 120KN axial
tensile load. Find change in length and diameter. = 0.25 and Es = 200GPa.

(i) Explain in brief Assumptions made in theory of bending.


(ii) Draw the shear stress distribution diagram for the following section
(a) Rectangular section (b) T section (c) I section (d) Hollow Rectangular

A beam of width 230 mm & depth 450 mm is simply supported over 4 m span
& loaded by a UDL of 20 Km/m. Find out maximum bending stress & draw
stress diagram.
OR
A Tee-Beam section having flange 250 mm x 30 mm and web 40mm x 280
mm. it subjected to 20 kN of shear force. Calculate and draw shear stress
distribution diagram. Take Y=202.17 mm (c.g. from bottom of web) and
I = 1.81 x 108 mm4
A cantilever beam having square cross section & length 2.0 m is subjected to
30 kN/m point load at free end. Calculate the side of cross section if
maximum bending stress does not exceed 100 N/mm2.
