Learning Experience 1

Experience: Dinosaur Painting

Date: 25 / 04/ 2015

Child/ren planned for: Humpty Doo Pre- School (small group)

Links: The
children love the theme of dinosaurs.
They enjoy painting and playing with
toy dinosaurs in the sand pit.
Rationale:
Dinosaurs are a great way to engage children and I hope to facilitate creativity
through art work. Creativity is one of the most important aspects of human
development, in which, I think is fundamental to become life-long learners.
Learning focus:
EYLF outcomes: 3.1, 4.3, 5.2; children read a story of dinosaurs from the classroom
bookshelf and then enjoy painting (with dinosaur figurines) whatever they choose
dinosaur related.
The learning uses literature focuses as the children explore dinosaur books and
identify the dinosaurs names. The children also create their visual artwork while
using reflective practice, through probing questions, to identify the art processes
and materials used.
Requirements/resources:
Dinosaur books from the book shelf, different colored paints/ pencils etc.., glitter,
dinosaur playing toys, brushes, dinosaur foam stamps.
Facilitiation/Implementation:
Preparation:
To lay the material out on the table or location of choice. Dinosaur books of a
variety of topics around dinosaurs, available on the book shelf.
Have probing questions continuously throughout the lesson. As you go along have
the questions relating to the children and get what they know and what you know
about dinosaurs as the learning is a two-way stream.
While painting with the children, observe what they are doing with all the material
out in front of them. Ask questions around it i.e. why did they choose the colors
they have and the emotions while painting and utilizing the materials given.
Enable them to describe and reflect on the process of their artwork while
implementing colors and shapes from the dinosaurs chosen to be used on their
artwork.

Evaluation/follow up:
- To extend the children can do more activities with the dinosaur playing toys like set up a
dinosaur environment and have volcanos there. The children can discover the environment on
what the dinosaurs lived in.
- We can have costumes and dramatic play around dinosaurs
- Enable the children to explore dinosaurs and why they arent here today, where there bones
may be.
