ASWSUV Seventeenth Senate 2007-08 Session

AN ACT Amending By-law {section 662.00, sub-sections 662.02 B, 662.05}

BE IT ENACTED BY THE ASWSUV SENATE:

Sec. 1. 662.02 B reads as follows:


Petitions bearing the signature and ID numbers of at least six (6) percent of ASWSUV’s
membership, shall be completed and returned to the Election board by:

Petitions bearing the signature and ID numbers of at least twenty (20) percent of ASWSUV’s
membership, shall be completed and returned to the Election board by:

Sec. 3. 662.05 reads as follows:


For a Constitutional amendment to be approved, it must receive a majority of the votes cast in the
election, provided that minimum of twenty (20) percent of ASWSUV’s membership vote in the
election.

Sec. 4. 662.05 will be changed to:


For a Constitutional amendment to be approved, it must receive fifty (50) percent plus one (1) of
the votes cast in the election, provided that minimum of twenty (20) percent of ASWSUV’s
membership vote in the election.

STATEMENT OF FACT:
This amendment first changes the required percent of the student body to petition for a constitutional
amendment from 6 to 20. Article X: section 1 of the ASWSUV Constitution states that 20 percent is
required. This amendment also changes the wording in 662.05 from “majority” to “fifty (50) percent plus
one (1)” to match the format of the rest of the by-laws.
