Nestle

In the mid of 1860's, Henri Nestle a pharamacist developed a food for those
babies who were unable to breastfeed. The first successful product by Henri
was premature infant for those babies who were unbale to tolerate their
mother's milk. The idea was being adopted as new product in the area and
soon it become sold product in Europe.
In 1905, Neslte merged with Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company. That was
the time of World War I, so the demand for dairy products was emerged and
the production of Nestle become double. After the end of war, Government
contracts dried up and people switch back to fresh milk. But Nestle company
management responded quickly and they introduce their new product in the
market as Choclate. So, this was the second product of the Nestle compnay.
In the start of World War II, Nestle felt the impact of war immediately and
started establishing factories around the Latin America region. Again war
helped the company to increase their profits which were decreasing in 1938 1939 from 20 million dollars to 6 million dollars. In the second world war, the
company introduce their new product which was the staple dirnk of the US
military named as "Nescafe".
The end of world war II was the growing period for Nestle. Their growth rate
accelerated. Their sales become double. In 1947, they merge with Maggi
seasonings and soups. Nestle growth in the developing world partially offset a
slowdown in the Company's traditional markets. Nestle made its second
venture outside the food industry by acquiring Alcon Laboratories.
In 1980's, the company divested a number of businesses and improved their
bottom line allowing the company to launch the new acquisitions. The most
important acquisition was American food giant Carnation. The 90's were
proved to be the favorable years for Nestle. The trade barriers crumbled and
the market developed into more integrated trading areas. In 2002, the two
major acquisitions in the North America was merging its U.S ice cream
business with Dreyer's. In August, USD 2.6 billion acquisition was announced
with Chef America Inc.
In the year 2003, the acquisition of Nestle with Movenpick Ice Cream enhance
the position of Nestle to be the world market leaders in the respective
product category. Jenny Craig and Uncle Toby added them to Nestle portfolio
