FATAL PEDESTRIAN COLLISION
MADISON AVENUE AT PITNEY PLACE
FEBRUARY 25, 2016
Date: FEBRUARY 24, 2016
Time: 07:58 PM
Location: Madison Ave. at Pitney Pl. Morris Township, N.J.
Incident #: 2016-04558
On February 24, 2016 at approximately 07:58PM the Morris Township Police Department was notified
via 9-1-1 of a collision involving a pedestrian in the area of Madison Ave. at Pitney Pl. Officers from the
Operations Division responded to the area and discovered a middle age male had been struck by a vehicle
in the area of the intersection. The male suffering from life threatening injuries was transported from the
scene by Atlantic Ambulance to Morristown Medical Center for treatment. Unfortunately, the male
identified as Peter E. Isel, 45 of Morris Township succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital and was
pronounced deceased. Next of kin has been notified.
Officers from the Morris Township Serious Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene in
order to further the investigation. They examined and collected roadway evidence, conducted interviews
with the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision as well as witnesses. At this time it is believed that
Mr. Isel was walking east bound on the west bound shoulder of Madison Ave. during a period of heavy
rain. When he reached the intersection of Pitney Place he crossed the west bound traffic lane and was
struck by a vehicle heading east bound in the east bound traffic lane. The driver remained at the scene and
was fully cooperated with the investigation. At this time there is no indication that speed, alcohol or drugs
was a factor in the collision.
The Morris Township Police were assisted by the Morris Township Fire Department, Atlantic Health
Ambulance Service, the Mobile Intensive Care from Morristown Medical Center and detectives from the
Morris County Sheriffs Department, Criminal Investigations Division.
