Differential Protection for Transformers

Transformer protection relies mainly on differential protection which compares currents entering and leaving the transformer. The differential protection's biased current must be set carefully to avoid operation during inrush current events when the transformer is first energized. Proper setting of the biased current allows the protection to operate for internal faults while avoiding operation due to inrush current.
