Grade 4 Dance Unit Plan

The Grade 4 dance class covers various elements of dance over several lessons. It begins with an introduction to dance, exploring what dance is, who dances, and where students have seen dance performed. Later lessons focus on different dance cultures, using the body to express emotions, use of space and movement, tempo and energy, and relationships between dancers. Assessments include a dance journal, exit cards, and a final research project on a cultural dance where students present their findings in a group poster and performance. The goal is for students to experience dance as play, develop dance appreciation, make personal connections through movement, engage in creative exploration, refine techniques, and perform dances.
