Poland

Poland is situated in Central Europe by the Baltic Sea


38.53 million people is the current population
The currency is polish zloty
The capital of the country is Warsaw

Famous places
Some of the most famous places in Poland are : Wieliczka
salt mine , Wawel castle , Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum,
Main Market Square in Krakow is the largest medieval
town square in Europe and one of the main tourist
attractions in Poland. The square is surrounded by
historical townhouses, historic buildings, palaces and
churches. The center of the square is dominated by the
Cloth Hall, rebuilt in 1555 in the Renaissance style,
topped by a beautiful attic.

Polish food
There is many famous traditional foods such as:
Barszcz: vegetarian version is the first course during the
Christmas Eve
Rosol: clear chicken soup
Bigos - a stew of sauerkraut and meat, mainly sausage,
including cabbage
Pierogi - dumplings, usually filled with sauerkraut or
mushrooms, meat, potato

Traditional dresses
There is several traditional dresses in polish culture

Krakow dress

a vest that has design
on front and back, a
floral full skirt, an
apron, a red coral bead
necklace, and lace-up
boots.

Lachy Sadeckie
The ethnic Polish community of the
southern Lesser region is known as Lachy
Sdeckie. The dresses for women are
decorated with superb floral patterns and
beads work with typical Lachy Sdeckie
motives. They also wear embroidered
aprons and handkerchiefs. Mens folk
costume has a collar and beautiful
embroidery on the shirt and vest. They
also sometimes wear Kaftan shaped coats
that are beautified with metal buttons.

Gorals
Gorals live in southern
Poland along the
Carpathian Mountains,
in Podhale of the Tatra
Mountains and parts of
the Beskids are wellknown for their unique
folklore and dazzling
customs.

Mountains
There is a few mountain ranges going through Poland like
Tatry which are part of the Carpathians, the Beskids,
Sudets.
Rysy is the highest peak in Poland it is 2.503m above sea
level
Giewont is the most famous peak because it has the cross
on the top of it and is in a shape of a knight in a deep
sleep.
Other major peaks are; Sniezka, Babia Gora, Kasprowy
Wierch( with a huge chairlift)

Polish Sport
Poland's sports include almost all sporting disciplines, in
particular: football(The most popular sport) and volleyball,
motorcycle speedway, track & field, basketball, boxing,
fencing, hockey, handball, ice hockey, swimming and
weightlifting.
Poland invented handball, it was firstly played by
prisoners in Szczypiorno Jail
Legia Warszawa is the current champion of Ekstraklasa

Polish Sport
In 1974 and 1982 Poland was 3rd in the World Cup with
Grzegorz Lato being top scorer of the competition in 1974
The football team won the Olympics in 1972
Poland is the current World Champion in volleyball, and
had the most success in this sport with 5 gold medals, 8
silver medals and 5 bronze medals in major competitions
