Nursing Care Plan for Labor Pain

The patient is experiencing acute labor pain related to stretching of the peritoneum, cervix, and ligaments during dilation as well as compression of nerve ganglia and hypoxia of the contracted myometrium. The nursing diagnosis is acute pain related to physical agents of laboring. The goal is to relieve or control the patient's pain after 30 minutes of interventions like back rubbing and positioning for comfort as well as relaxation techniques. The rationale is to provide information to determine effective interventions and promote relaxation and coping abilities. After 30 minutes, the patient's pain was relieved and controlled.
