“Boiler”
Subject: To study the functioning of Boiler.
Boiler:
Boiler is a closed vessel in which a fluid (usually water) is
heated and converted to steam.
There are two types of boilers.
1. Fire tube boiler.
2. Water tube boiler.
Fire Tube Boiler:
A fire-tube boiler is a type of boiler in
which hot gases from a fire pass through
one or more tubes running through a sealed
container of water.
The heat energy from the gases passes through the sides of
the tubes by thermal conduction, heating the water and
ultimately creating steam.
Water Tube Boiler:
A water tube boiler is a type of boiler in
which water circulates in tubes heated
externally by the fire.
Water tube boilers are used for high-
pressure boilers. Fuel is burned inside
the furnace, creating hot gas which heats water
in the steam-generating tubes. In smaller
boilers, additional generating tubes are
separate in the furnace, while larger utility
boilers rely on the water-filled tubes that make up the walls of the
furnace to generate steam.
Applications:
➢ Steam engine.
➢ Heating industry.
➢ Power plants.
1
➢ Marines.
Procedure:
➢ First start the experiment and find the atm pressure.
➢ Find the gauge pressure by the help of instrument and enter
in Pg colum.
➢ Add gauge pressure in atm pressure which is equall to
absolute pressure Pobs.
➢ Find the temperature in Kelvin scale.
➢ Find the ratio between temperature and absolute pressure.
➢ And draw the graph between temperature and Pobs.
