UNIT–WRITING AID FOR THE UNIT WRITERS

The Units to be written are known as SLM (Self Learning Material), and have to be according
to the DEC (Distance Education Council) guidelines, which are simplified as follows:
One unit means:
1. 5,000 words.
2. Around 20 pages.
3. As it is self learning material for the students, so it must have pictures, illustrations,
diagrams, tables, references etc. where necessary for the students to understand the
syllabus.
4. The units must be self explanatory and in very easy English language.
5. It must contain heading, sub heading, sub- sub heading, numbering etc. to understand
the connectivity of the chapter and study material.
6. It must contain the short questions, long questions; fill in the blanks, true/false kind of
self examination questions at the end of the unit.
7. The unit must be written in STYLE format in the computer so that it becomes easy to
change (if needed) the size, headings, page nos., font of the whole book at one time
(otherwise it is done manually for every heading, every line, every page).
8. You will be paid an Honorarium of Rs. 3000/- for each unit and Rs. 20 typing charges
per page.
9. The units must be delivered in 3 forms: soft copy (e-mail), hard copy and CD.

• Heading= font size-14,capital,bold
• Subheading= font size-12,bold
• Body text= 12- normal
