Empowering Teams: BY Saleem Javed M

Empowering teams involves giving employees authority, confidence, and commitment to take responsibility for improving processes and satisfying customers. While centralized decision making can hamper flexibility, empowerment requires setting boundaries to avoid chaos. Leaders should empower those with the capacity for responsibility by encouraging skill development, not second guessing decisions, and giving autonomy over tasks. Guidance for empowering teams includes evaluations from multiple sources, group incentives, error tolerance, communication, and a learning culture. The advantages of empowerment are improved customer service, flexibility, speed, morale, and changing job profiles.
