Technology in Language Teaching
Technology has been around in language
teaching for decades.
Tape recorders, language laboratories and video
have been in use since 1960s and 1970s and are
still used in classrooms around the world.
CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning),
appeared in the early 1980s.
TELL (Technology Enhanced Language Learning)
appeared in the 1990s in
•Internet access is increasingly available to learners
Technology in the classroom is
increasingly important
Internet access is Younger learners
increasingly are growing up
available to learners with technology

Internet offers
collaboration & Technology offers new
communication ways for practicing
between learners language and assessing
worldwide performance
Attitude to technology
Some people are afraid of technology

Digital native people who grow up using
technology; who thus feels comfortable and
confident with it typically today’s children.
Digital immigrants people who come late
to the world of technology for example:
teachers are digital immigrants
The negative attitudes teachers
have towards technology
a lack of confidence, a lack of
facilities or a lack of training
