Plant Protection Implements

The document discusses various types of plant protection equipment used to control pests. It describes sprayers that break liquids into droplets for uniform application to plants, including bucket sprayers, knapsack sprayers, compression sprayers, and air plane sprayers. It also discusses dusters that distribute pesticides in powder form using air streams, including plunger and hand rotary dusters. Finally, it mentions fumigators that treat entire areas or structures using fumigants to eradicate post-harvest pests, and smoke generators and flame throwers that control weeds.

PLANT PROTECTION EQUIPMENTS

Chemicals

are widely used for controlling disease, insects and weeds in the crops. They are able to save a crop from pest attack only when applied in time. They need to be applied on plants and soil in the form of spray, dust or mist. The chemicals are costly. Therefore, equipment for uniform and effective application is essential

SPRAYERS

The main function of a sprayer is to break the liquid into droplets of effective size and distribute them uniformly over the surface or space to be protected. Another function is to regulate the amount of insecticide to avoid excessive application that might prove harmful or wasteful. A sprayer that delivers droplets large enough to wet the surface readily should be used for proper application

Knapsack sprayer

Compression sprayer

Hand atomizer

AIR PLANE Sprayer

Engine powered sprayer

Dusters

A device for the distribution of the pesticide chemical which is in the form of powder on the surface to be processed using a stream of air to the powder and prose on the surface of the plants and trees. Duster is simpler in design, lighter and cheaper which does not require operation of a large number of manpower.

HAND ROTARY DUSTER

Fumigators

Fumigation is usually the preferred method of post-harvest pest eradication because the pests can be anywhere within the commodity, storage or processing structure, mill or food-handling establishment. Fumigation is the art of treating food products (or a site) using one or more fumigants.

Smoke generators

A smoke generator consists of a metal, cardboard or plastic container in which is packed smoke producing materials and the active ingredient. An ignition device e.g. a wick is fitted at the top .On ignition the smoke produced distributes the active ingredients. Generators should be stored in a cool, dry place.

FLAME THROWERS

Flame weed killers are an effective organic method of weed control. The idea is that the damage caused to the leaves makes the plant dehydrate and die. Flameguns can be powered by gas or paraffin, depending on model.
