Entrepreneurship has been considered the backbone of economic development. It has been well established that the level of economic growth of a region to a large extent, depends on the level of entrepreneurial activities in the region

Training and development needs of entrepreneur-managers


The knowledge, attitudes and skills needed by the entrepreneur-manager will vary at different stages in the life of his or her small business. The competencies required to conceive and start a small business will be different from those needed to make the enterprise survive, be profitable and grow. At the stage where the business is transforming from small to a medium enterprise, the attitudes, management style and competencies required will be totally different

Need for EDPs:


To induce motivation To increase competence among young entrepreneurs.

Objectives of EDPs:
Develop and strengthen their entrepreneurial quality. Analyze environmental set up relating to small industry and small business. Select product. Formulate project for the product. Understand the process and procedure involved in setting up a small enterprise.

General introduction to
Entrepreneurship

Motivation training Management skills Support system and procedure Fundamentals of project feasibility study Plant visits

Phases of EDPs:
Pre-training phase Training phase. Post-training phase (follow up)

PROBLEMS FACED BY EDPS:


Trainer-motivation lack in commitment Non-conducive environment attitude of the supporting agencies Selection of trainees

Qualitative evaluation criteria for assessing effectiveness of EDPs:


Activity level of the respondents. New enterprise established. Total investment made. Investments in fixed assets made. Number of people employed. Number of jobs created. Increase in profit. Increase in sales. Quality of product/service improved. Quicker repayment of loans.

Entrepreneurial behavior is measured on following four dimensions: Planning orientation Achievement orientation Expansion orientation Management orientation.
