Uncertainty Calculation in Chemical Metrology

This document from the Centro de Metrologia Quimica provides information about the analytical methods and uncertainty calculations for concentration results reported in a reference material called SIM.QM-P2. Atomic absorption spectrophotometry was used to measure concentrations of various elements in the sample. The uncertainty analysis included identifying sources of uncertainty, quantifying individual uncertainty components, calculating the combined standard uncertainty, and reporting the expanded uncertainty. Concentration results for elements like Ni, Fe, Cu, As, Pb, Mn, and Cd in the SIM.QM-P2 sample are provided along with the expanded uncertainty and relative expanded uncertainty for each element.

ANALYTICAL MEASUREMENT
NIST-SRMs were used for the preparation
of calibration standards.
The quantification method used was
bracketing
Four independent aliquots of the sample
were analyzed, in all cases.
NIST-SMR 1643d was used as control
(except for Cd)
