Mechanical Engineering Overview

Mechanical engineering is a broad field that applies physics and materials science principles to design, analyze, manufacture, and maintain mechanical systems. It emerged during the industrial revolution but has roots thousands of years ago. Degree programs worldwide generally include subjects like statics, dynamics, strength of materials, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics. Mechanical engineers also study concepts from other engineering fields and advanced mathematics. Computer-aided design software is an important tool that streamlines the design process in mechanical engineering.

Mechanical engineering

Mechanical engineering is a discipline of engineering that applies the principles of physics and materials science for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. It is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines. Mechanical engineering emerged as a field during the industrial revolution in Europe in the 18th century; however, its development can be traced back several thousand years around the world. Degrees in mechanical engineering are offered at universities worldwide. In Spain, Portugal and most of South America, where neither BSc (bachelor of science) nor BTech (bachelor of technology) programs have been adopted, the formal name for the degree is "Mechanical Engineer", and the course work is based on five or six years of training. The fundamental subjects of mechanical engineering usually include: Statics and dynamics, Strength of materials, Instrumentation, Thermodynamics, heat transfer, energy conversion, Fluid mechanics, Manufacturing engineering, Hydraulics, Product design. Mechanical engineers are also expected to understand and be able to apply basic concepts from chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, civil engineering, and electrical engineering. Most mechanical engineering programs include multiple semesters of calculus, as well as advanced mathematical concepts including differential equations, partial differential equations, linear algebra, abstract algebra, and differential geometry, among others.

In mechanical engineering, there in pc a software which we call Computer-aided design (CAD), also known as computer-aided design and drafting (CADD), is the use of computer technology for the process of design and design-documentation. Computer Aided Drafting describes the process of drafting with a computer. CADD software provides the user with input-tools for the purpose of streamlining design processes; drafting, documentation, and manufacturing processes.
