GAME CONCEPT
2
This game “Survivor Beetle” revolves around the “Bombardier Beetle”. The “Bombardier
Beetle” is known as a small but extraordinary insect found in many parts of the world.
The insect is known for its unique defense mechanisms, including spraying boiling, toxic
chemicals from its abdomen to fend off attackers. When threatened, Bombardier Beetle
ejects a boiling hot, noxious chemical spray from the tip of its abdomen, producing an
audible popping sound that startles and repels predators. This spray is created by
mixing two chemical compounds in an internal reaction chamber, reaching temperatures
close to 100°C. The beetle’s remarkable ability not only deters enemies such as ants,
frogs, and birds but also makes it one of nature’s most fascinating examples of survival
through chemistry.
In this adventure, players step into the role of the beetle. Their major role is to guide the
“Beetle” through its diverse and often dangerous natural habitat. The idea is that the
“Beetle” must survive relentless threats from predators such as ants, spiders, lizards,
and birds, each growing stronger and more cunning as levels progress. Beyond
predators, players are likely to face environmental hazards including floods, falling
debris, shifting terrain, and limited resources. In this case, success depends greatly on
mastering the beetle’s unique defense mechanism, such as its powerful chemical spray,
while also using stealth, quick reflexes, and strategic movements.
3
The gameplay style is designed as an endless survival challenge, where each
playthrough tests the player’s reflexes, decision-making, and strategic thinking. Early
stages introduce manageable predators, such as ants or small spiders, allowing players
to master the beetle’s movement and defensive spray. As progression unfolds, enemies
become larger, faster, and smarter, including lizards, birds, and even swarming insect
colonies. Each level escalates the intensity, forcing players to rely not just on raw
reflexes but also on careful timing and resource management.
A core mechanic of the game is the “CHEMICAL SPRAY SYSTEM”. Players should
learn how to balance offensive and defensive usage of this spray system. Spraying too
often depletes the beetle’s reserves, leaving it vulnerable, while conserving too much
could mean being overpowered. The resource regenerates slowly, requiring strategic
planning for survival. In addition, the beetle can perform evasive maneuvers,
camouflage in certain terrains, or seek refuge in natural cover like leaves, burrows, or
bark crevices.
The environments evolve dynamically as players advance through levels. The
Bombardier Beetle must journey across diverse landscapes, from dense forests filled
with hidden predators to wide grassy plains where speed and visibility become critical,
and humid riverbanks where water currents and slippery terrain pose new dangers.
4
Each environment introduces unique hazards, such as sudden floods, collapsing
branches, swarming insects, or unstable ground. To maintain excitement, randomized
challenges and environmental shifts ensure that every playthrough feels different,
keeping players alert and engaged while emphasizing the beetle’s ability to adapt to its
ever-changing world.
5
ANIMAL NATURE
The “Bombardier Beetle” belongs to the ground beetle family (Carabidae). However, the
“Bombardier Beetle” stands out among the Carabidae because of its remarkable
survival strategy. Unlike ordinary beetles, the “Bombardier Beetle” possesses a highly
specialized defense mechanism that makes it both fascinating to scientists and inspiring
as the central figure in a survival-based game. The Bombardier Beetle can unleash a
powerful chemical spray made from a combination of hydroquinone and hydrogen
peroxide stored in its body. This mixture is expelled at near-boiling temperatures,
creating a toxic blast capable of deterring even the most determined predators. What
makes this defense even more remarkable is the beetle’s ability to rotate its abdomen
like a turret, giving it pinpoint accuracy in aiming at attackers.
The natural habitat of the Bombardier Beetle adds depth to its story. Found in soils,
under logs, forest floors, and near rivers, the beetle navigates environments teeming
with threats. Its everyday existence is a fight for survival against a wide array of
predators including frogs, spiders, ants, lizards, and birds. Each predator brings its own
tactics and dangers, challenging the beetle to rely on both its agility and chemical
weaponry to endure. These unique qualities make the “Bombardier Beetle” an ideal
protagonist for a survival game.

GAMEPLAY DESIGN
The gameplay design can be better understood from three main aspects, including
game modes, player controls and power-ups and abilities.
(1) GAME MODES
The game offers two major modes to keep the players engaged. The main mode is
known as “ENDLESS SURVIVAL”. This mode enables players to guide the beetle
through continuous stages where the level of difficulty steadily increases. Each stage
introduces more aggressive predators, faster attacks, and harsher environmental
hazards such as floods or falling debris. The objective is simple: survive for as long as
possible. The endless nature of this mode encourages players to improve their reflexes,
strategies, and use of resources while competing for high scores. This creates a sense
of replayability and mastery, as every run is unique.
The second mode is the “CHALLENGE MODE”. This mode introduces special, time-
bound or scenario-based missions to test player skill. For instance, one challenge could
task players with surviving a bird attack for 60 seconds without using the spray ability,
forcing them to rely on agility and hiding. Another could involve escaping from a swarm
of ants within a limited area. Challenge Mode adds variety and breaks up the pace of
Endless Survival by presenting focused, high-stakes tasks that reward players with rare
power-ups or upgrades.
(2) PLAYER CONTROLS
Movement
Players can use arrow buttons (or swipe gestures on touchscreens) to run, crawl, or
take cover under objects. This captures the agile and cautious behavior of beetles in the
wild while giving the player freedom to explore and evade threats.
7
Spray Acid
A dedicated button allows players to activate the beetle’s most iconic defense
mechanism. The spray, however, is limited in quantity, functioning like “ammo” that
gradually refills over time. This encourages players to think strategically rather than
spamming attacks.
Defend (Shield/Hardened Carapace)
The beetle can temporarily harden its exoskeleton, reducing damage from predator
strikes or environmental hazards. This ability simulates the beetle’s natural toughness
and provides a safety net when escape is not possible.
Hide
A stealth mechanic allows the beetle to blend into the environment, such as leaves, soil,
or shadows. This camouflage ability provides an alternative to direct combat, rewarding
players who prefer a defensive playstyle.
(3) POWER-UPS & ABILITIES
To make gameplay dynamic, players can unlock or discover special abilities that
enhance survival chances and introduce new strategies.
Speed Boost
This temporary ability increases movement speed, allowing the beetle to quickly dodge
attacks or escape pursuing predators. In gameplay terms, it adds a thrilling burst of
momentum that can turn a hopeless chase into a narrow escape.
Spray Upgrade
The beetle’s spray can be enhanced with longer range, wider spread, or increased heat
and toxicity. This makes the weapon more effective against larger predators, but
upgrades might be time-limited or consumable, requiring players to decide when best to
use them.
8
Stealth Mode
Unlike the basic hide function, this advanced ability makes the beetle completely
invisible to certain predators for a short duration. It emphasizes tactical timing, giving
players a way to bypass overwhelming threats or reposition themselves.
Habitat Allies
Occasionally, the beetle can call upon environmental assistance, such as ant allies to
distract predators or mud for extra camouflage. These temporary allies reflect the
beetle’s ecological connections and add variety to defensive strategies.
9
ENEMIES AND PREDATORS
The world of the “Bombardier Beetle” is a dangerous place filled with lurking predators
and hidden hazards. This game is structured in stages that gradually introduce new
enemies, each with distinctive attack patterns, movement behaviors, and levels of
intelligence. As players progress, the intensity of encounters rises, culminating in
chaotic environments where multiple predators coordinate attacks while natural dangers
complicate survival. Below is an in-depth breakdown of each stage and the predators
that dominate them.
10
STAGE 1: ANTS AND SPIDERS
The early stages serve as both an introduction to the controls and an entry point into the
beetle’s ecosystem. Here, the player learns to maneuver quickly, hide under leaves,
and use the acid spray sparingly.
Ants (Swarm Attacks)
Ants appear in large groups, moving rapidly across the terrain. Instead of dealing major
individual damage, their strength lies in numbers. They can surround the beetle, forcing
the player to either spray acid in a sweeping motion or quickly dash to safety.
Spiders (Web Traps)
Spiders bring a different type of threat. They are less numerous but much deadlier. A
spider lurks at the edge of the screen, launching sticky webs that can slow or
completely immobilize the beetle if the player is not careful. The webs are strategically
placed along common escape paths, teaching players the importance of reading enemy
movement and staying alert. A trapped beetle becomes easy prey, so spraying acid at
the right moment or dodging before entrapment is critical.
STAGE 2: FROGS AND LIZARDS
In this stage, the difficulty escalates with the introduction of larger, more agile predators.
Unlike ants and spiders, which rely on swarms and traps, frogs and lizards are direct
hunters that use sudden bursts of speed and precision strikes.
Frogs (Tongue Strike)
Frogs rely on ambush tactics. They remain motionless until the beetle wanders into
range. Suddenly, their long sticky tongue lashes out, pulling the beetle toward their
jaws. This attack is fast but predictable, giving skilled players a chance to dodge
sideways. Acid spray is particularly effective against frogs, as they recoil after being
burned. Players must learn to anticipate the slight delay before the tongue strike and
time their defensive maneuvers accordingly.
11
Lizards (Agile Chasers)
Lizards are fast-moving predators that chase the beetle relentlessly. Unlike ants or
frogs, they don’t wait, they pursue with determination. Their ability to climb over rocks
and obstacles makes them difficult to outrun. Lizards introduce a stamina-based
challenge, as players must manage sprinting and hiding effectively. Acid spray slows
them temporarily, but overuse leaves the beetle vulnerable to follow-up attacks. This
creates
tension, forcing players to balance between aggression and evasion.
STAGE 3: BIRDS
With the arrival of aerial predators, the battlefield becomes more complex. Birds do not
rely on terrain; they dominate from above, turning the sky into a constant threat.
Birds (Diving Attacks)
Birds circle overhead before diving at high speed. Their sharp beaks or talons can deal
devastating damage in one hit. Unlike ground predators, birds strike vertically, forcing
players to pay attention to multiple dimensions. The shadow of an approaching bird
provides a brief warning, but reacting requires sharp reflexes. Acid spray can hit them
mid-dive, causing them to veer off in pain, but the timing window is narrow. This stage
introduces vertical awareness and multitasking. Players must dodge ground threats
while keeping one eye on the sky. Birds bring an unpredictable rhythm, adding urgency
to every movement.
STAGE 4: SMALL MAMMALS
Stage 4 marks a transition to the most cunning predators in the beetle’s world. Unlike
insects or reptiles, small mammals have higher intelligence, speed, and persistence.
Shrews (Relentless Hunters)
12
Shrews rely on their incredible sense of smell. Even if the beetle hides under leaves or
rocks, shrews will sniff out its position and dig to reach it. They are small but extremely
fast, darting forward with sharp bites. This forces the player to stay mobile and avoid
lingering in one spot.
Rodents (Ambush Predators)
Rodents use both speed and strategy. They set up ambushes near food sources or
narrow pathways, lunging at the beetle when it’s most vulnerable. Unlike earlier
predators, rodents can feign retreat, tricking players into lowering their guard before
striking again. Acid spray is less effective on them, requiring precise timing to deter their
attacks.
STAGE 5 AND BEYOND
The final stages are the ultimate test of endurance and adaptability. No longer do
predators appear one at a time, multiple enemies attack simultaneously, each exploiting
different weaknesses. A bird may swoop from above while ants swarm from below, with
a lizard chasing at the same time. The overlapping attack styles create chaos, requiring
mastery of all learned skills.
On top of this, environmental hazards make survival even harder:
Rain floods tunnels and slows movement, reducing visibility.
Fire (from forest wildfires or human activity) creates shifting danger zones.
Traps such as falling branches, sticky mud, or collapsing terrain force constant
repositioning.
At this stage, predators also exhibit faster artificial intelligence. They coordinate attacks,
with spiders setting traps while birds strike when the beetle is slowed. The player’s acid
spray recharges more slowly, adding another layer of difficulty. These late-game stages
transform the experience into a true survival gauntlet, where every decision counts.
Players must know when to fight, when to flee, and when to hide.
13
ENVIRONMENT AND STAGES
The progression of the game is structured around diverse environments that gradually
introduce new hazards, predators, and survival challenges. Each stage is designed not
only to provide fresh visual landscapes but also to increase gameplay complexity,
pushing the player to adapt strategies for survival.
Stage 1: Forest Floor – Logs, Soil, and Leaves
The journey begins in the dense undergrowth of the forest floor, a world filled with
rotting logs, damp soil, and scattered leaves. This stage serves as the introduction to
the core mechanics, allowing players to familiarize themselves with movement, hiding,
and the use of acid spray. Predators here are relatively small and manageable, ants
swarm in groups while spiders weave simple webs that can trap the beetle if not
avoided. The environment itself is relatively forgiving, but fallen leaves and uneven
terrain can slow movement, forcing players to be mindful of navigation.
Stage 2: Riverbank – Mud, Water Obstacles, and Fish Predators
As the beetle advances, it encounters the riverbank. This stage introduces
environmental hazards in the form of water puddles, mud, and shifting ground that can
restrict movement or leave the beetle vulnerable to attack. Predators also escalate in
size and threat level. Frogs and small fish become significant dangers, ambushing from
water edges or leaping suddenly when the beetle gets too close. Players must learn to
time their movements carefully, balancing aggression with caution. The riverbank also
emphasizes resource management, as the beetle’s acid spray recharges more slowly in
damp conditions, reflecting the struggle of chemical defense in wet habitats.
Stage 3: Grassland – Open Fields and Aerial Predators
The open expanse of the grassland marks a dramatic shift in gameplay dynamics.
Unlike the confined forest floor or riverbank, here the lack of cover leaves the beetle
14
exposed. Tall grasses provide occasional hiding spots, but wide stretches of open
terrain force players to rely on timing and mobility. Birds dominate this stage as the
primary predators, swooping down at high speed. Their attacks are relentless, requiring
quick reflexes and strategic use of acid spray as both a deterrent and defense. This
stage introduces a sense of vulnerability and urgency, as players must master evasive
maneuvers to survive in an environment where threats come from above.
Stage 4: Desert – Extreme Heat and Scorpions
The desert brings an entirely new survival challenge, harsh environmental conditions.
The blazing sun drains the beetle’s stamina faster, limiting mobility and increasing the
need for resource conservation. Unlike previous stages where hiding was an option,
shade is scarce, and prolonged exposure to heat can temporarily weaken the beetle.
Scorpions emerge as apex predators in this environment, their speed and venomous
strikes making them formidable adversaries. Players must carefully navigate the
cracked terrain, avoid dehydration hazards, and utilize their limited acid spray wisely.
The desert stage emphasizes endurance and adaptability, testing both reaction time
and long-term strategy.
Stage 5+: Dynamic Mixed Habitats – Multiple Hazards at Once
Beyond Stage 4, the environments shift into a dynamic and unpredictable mode. These
advanced levels merge elements of previous habitats, creating mixed terrains where
multiple hazards coexist simultaneously. Players may face the heat of the desert
combined with sudden river floods, or find themselves in grassy plains with both spiders’
traps and swooping birds. Predators not only appear in greater numbers but also
coordinate attacks with more sophisticated AI. This stage represents the ultimate test of
survival, demanding mastery of all previous skills while adapting to constantly changing
conditions. The unpredictability ensures that no two runs feel exactly the same, keeping
gameplay fresh, intense, and highly replayable.
15
GAME PROGRESSION
The progression system is designed to keep players challenged, motivated, and
engaged by gradually increasing both the intensity of encounters and the complexity of
decisions they must make. At its core, the game rewards survival, skillful combat, and
strategic resource management, while ensuring that no two playthroughs feel identical.
Score System
Player performance is measured through a dynamic scoring system. Points are
awarded for survival time, the number of enemies defeated, and resources collected
throughout each stage. Surviving longer increases the multiplier effect, encouraging
players to stay alive for as long as possible. Defeating predators adds an additional
layer of risk-versus-reward, as engaging with stronger enemies yields higher points but
can quickly lead to defeat if poorly timed. Collecting resources, such as stamina boosts
or temporary power-ups, contributes to overall score while reinforcing exploration.
Difficulty Curve
The difficulty escalates in a carefully balanced curve. Early stages provide ample hiding
spots, slower enemies, and less aggressive attacks to ease players into mechanics. As
progression continues, enemies become faster, stronger, and more coordinated.
Predators adapt with improved AI, setting traps or ambushing in groups. Environmental
design also reflects this curve: once-safe hiding spaces diminish, terrain grows more
hazardous, and opportunities for recovery become scarce. The combination of stronger
predators and harsher habitats ensures that players must constantly refine their
strategies.
Infinite Scaling
To maximize replayability, the game does not have a fixed final stage. Instead, difficulty
scales infinitely, with each new level introducing increased predator intelligence,
16
reduced resource availability, and amplified environmental threats. This design
guarantees that players can never “master” the game completely, as survival becomes
progressively harder. Infinite scaling makes every session unique, allowing players to
compete for high scores, challenge themselves against increasingly overwhelming
odds, and push their survival skills to the absolute limit.
17
