" The centre for training, consultancy, dissemination information and research in occupational safety and health in Malaysia. " INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND December 1, 1992 marked a new era in the promotion of Occupational Safety and Health in Malaysia. On this day the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) was established as a Company Limited by Guarantee, under the Malaysian companies Act, 1965 to spearhead the safety and health culture at the workplace in Malaysia. Its Board of Directors, a tripartite representation of the Government, the Private Sectors and the Workers Unions, provides autonomy in decision-making. NIOSH was set up on a Launching Grant from the Government and Endowment Fund from the Government and the Social Security Organization (SOCSO) of Malaysia. To conduct primarily applied research and both short term and long term research on OSH and health issues relevant to the country To disseminate infomation on research and findings on OSH and health issues in the main and other pertinent activities undertaken by or on behalf of the Institute and to be a centre of reference OSH POLICY NIOSH has a firm commitment and fundamental responsibility to ensure that all its employees work in a safe and healthy environment.
We will comply with all safety and health laws and regulations and take all necessary measures to prevent work related injuries and diseases. NIOSH'S objectives are:
1. To ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, course participants, contractors and visitors. 2. To develop a culture of safety and health and provide training for employees to achieve this. 3. To ensure each manager is held accountable for meeting safety and health objectives that are set.
Each employee is an important part of the safety and health programme and is expected to be committed to these objectives. We will strive to prevent all occupational diseases, accidents and injuries at the workplace. FACILITIES AND SERVICES NIOSH Training and Research Centre is located on a 10 acre site in Bandar Baru Bangi, consisting of the following physical facilities Four lecture rooms capable of accomodating up to 30 participants each Ten discussion rooms of various sizes A theatrette capable of accomodating up to 200 people
