The full-time MBA (International Business) is our flagship programme where skills of the participants are honed to enable them to master the complexities and intricacies of International Business and equip them with the tools to evolve into sound business professionals.
Globalisation Policies pursued by various Governments have led to accelerated world economic integration resulting in reduction in barriers to International Business and Trade. Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), over nearly five decades, has been engaged in teaching, research and capacity building on all aspects of International Business and Trade. The Centre for International Trade and Technology (CITT)
Recognizing the role of innovation, research & development and technology for the growth and competitiveness of trade and industry in knowledge based economy, the Centre for International Trade and Technology (CITT) was set up in 2001 at IIFT with the active technical and financial support of Ministry of Science & Technology, Department for Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India. The CITT primarily aims at promoting technology business through policy research, capacity building, dissemination of information and networking.

Management Development Programmes

The Centre for MSME Studies


The Centre for MSME Studies at IIFT provides continuous support to the MSME sector by carrying out activities which can be broadly classified into: Conducting training programmes, Provision of Business Intelligence services through a databank and Acting as a catalyst for interfacing with other concerned and associated institutions. These are done both at national level in collaboration with industry associations, EPCs and various ministries and at international level with assistance from agencies including SDC (Berne), Mckong Institute (Thailand), Vietnam University of Foreign Trade, UNIDO, UNCTAD etc.

Through a unique combination of cutting edge knowledge, insight into the global development agenda and faculty expertise, the MDPs provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and acquisition of skills in the area of international business that help shape corporate strategies.

Management Development Programmes (MDPs), being the core strength of IIFT in the field of International Business, aim at developing the required skills and professional competency among the participants and equipping them with knowledge of international trade and business, helping them keep pace with the emerging challenges. The Institute offers a wide range of MDPs in various areas of International Business such as International Marketing, Trade Operations and Logistics, International Finance, WTO & related issues in India and abroad, besides CSR. IIFT has organized these programmes for a large number of Government departments/ ministries such as Ministry of External Affairs and Department of Science & Technology as well as corporate houses such as Tata Group, Mahindra Group, Aditya Birla Group, Indian Oil, ITC, Pepsico, ABN-AMRO, Cairn, Sony, UNDP, Bharat Electronics, Medtronic, BHEL, Ericsson, MMTC, STC, Power Grid, ITPO, ONGC, SAIL, GAIL and Coir Board.

The Centre for WTO Studies


The major objective of the Centre has been to provide research and analytical support on a continuous basis to the Department of Commerce on identified issues pertaining to the World Trade Organization. Over the years, the Centre has conducted a robust research programme with a series of papers in all spheres of interest at the WTO. The centre has also created a specialised e-repository of important WTO documents, especially related to India, in its Trade Resource Centre.

Research
Research activities occupy a critical place at IIFT because of the strong institutional emphasis on a strong pervasive interface between research and training. The Institute has so far brought out over 650 research studies and surveys. In addition, it has developed substantial consulting capacity in analyzing international business situations and developing appropriate corporate strategies. Prominent institutions and international organisations that have consulted IIFT includes Harvard University, European Union Office, USAID, UNDP, ESCAP, Commonwealth Secretariat, FICCI, CII, FIEO and Central & State Governments of India

Overseas Programmes
Continuing with the initiative of building capacity across the African continent, consequent to the India Africa Forum Summit, 2008 a series of capacity building programmes on International Business were held in Uganda, Senegal, and Rwanda. The Institute has so far conducted about a dozen programmes in various African countries that include Ethiopia, Egypt, Botswana, Namibia, Angola and South Africa.

Our flagship program

MBA (International Business)


Developments in the international markets and their consequential impact on Indias domestic market, call for a professional approach and sensitivity to international business environment. The MBA (International Business) is a foundation course for developing a competent class of business executives to meet the countrys growing requirements for training personnel in the field of International Business Management.

MBA (IB), the flagship programme of IIFT, is a two year, fully residential programme. The course has been designed with special emphasis on international perspectives of all the functional streams of management. This differentiates the MBA (IB) programme from the management programmes offered at other top business schools.
The programme aims at a holistic development of the students. Integrating economics with management principles through carefully designed courses makes the programme unique. Port visits, summer projects, live projects, a social awareness programme, symposia, cultural events, community service activities, sports and different club activities form an integral part of the curricula.

Admission Procedure
Through a rigorous admission procedure involving an intensive written exam, group discussion, essay writing and an interview, IIFT ensures that only the crme de la crme make it to the programme. The 1:300 student to applicant ratio stands testimony to the level of scrutiny that IIFT adopts in its admission procedure.

Course Structure
The pedagogy at IIFT is specifically designed to create a progressive learning environment - a blend of both theoretical concepts and practical nuances. An optimal mix of learning methods ensures a holistic personality development of the students. The curriculum encourages students to apply theoretical learning to real-life scenarios in the form of case studies, primary research and live projects.
The course structure at IIFT gives a strong grounding of international perspectives. The first year of the programme helps in building a strong foundation and equips students with the basics of Finance, Marketing, Trade, Strategy and Entrepreneurship. It also introduces the students to the concepts of HR, Operations and Economics. All research findings at IIFT are carefully incorporated in the curriculum. The second year requires the students to specialise in a domain by opting for a preferred combination of 8 electives in addition to the core courses offered. To major in any particular domain, a minimum of 4 electives are to be chosen. A minimum of 2 electives make a minor in the particular domain. Location
Located in Qutab Institutional Area, overlooking the green ridge and the historical Qutab Minar, the IIFT Campus is considered to be one of the finest in the country. The campus is spread over 6.5 acres of land, houses two academic blocks and two residential blocks for students and visiting faculty. Be it the imposing structure of the Atrium, the mystic beauty of the architectural design called Top of the World, or the splendour of the campus in full bloom in winter, it never fails to impress the visitors.

Life @ IIFT Delhi

Library
One of the largest of its kind in the developing world, with a repository of over 1 lakh volumes and 800 journals, the library comprises of a unique collection of publications and business journals from FAO, IMF, UNCTAD, World Bank and other international agencies. Students have access to databases such as CMIE, India Stat, World Trade Atlas, World Bank Indicators, WITS and EBSCO and other audio-visual aids on management. IIFT has set up the WTO Resource Centre in the Library to focus exclusively on WTO issues. This unique Centre enhances the utility of the IIFT Library even further.

Hostel
IIFT, Delhi comprises of three hostels which are well equipped to help students deal with the hectic course. The campus hostels have recreation rooms, study lounges and gymnasiums. Full time medical assistance is available.

Sports and Fitness


The campus boasts of a wellequipped gym which is much appreciated by the programme participants. But the idea of fitness is not just restricted to the gym. IIFTians take pride in their passion for sports. The Ultimate Warrior League organised this year was one of the biggest successes of the sports clubs. There is a collegiate team for football and cricket which represent the college at various national level sports meets.

Student Life
Keeping in line with the aim of all round development of managers, IIFT Delhi provides a plethora of activities initiated by students themselves. The slew of interesting group projects and assignments make sure that the IIFTians work together and develop team-spirit. But IIFT is not just about academics. Students also take part in various recreational activities and get togethers. Nonacademic clubs such as Quintessential and Koshish are very popular among students.

Facilities
The campus itself is very picturesque, with artistically designed buildings and wellmaintained plush gardens. The facilities available on the campus include, fully air-conditioned lecture halls with modern audiovisual aids, conference halls for round-table conferences, an auditorium of 500 seating capacity, three computer centers, indoor games, sports ground, besides excellent residential facilities for the students.

Student Life
IIFT Kolkata teaches students to live life at its best and to make the optimal use of available resources. Students strive to excel in various fields, be it the world of academics including various research assignments and projects or the numerous B-School competitions or the extensive club activities and symposiums. The in-house Finance Magazine - Infineeti, completely a work of the students of IIFT, is published on a monthly basis. It includes enriching articles in the field of finance including articles on current happenings and on prominent personalities along

with quizzes, insights and guest articles by industry experts. BrandWagon, the Marketing Club of IIFT also publishes its Marketing Magazine under the name of MarkMantra containing interesting and innovative marketing articles written by students and industry practitioners. Both these magazines are published on the IIFT knowledge repository website maintained by the students and circulated among the top B-Schools of the country as also shared with various corporates.

Location
The IIFT Kolkata Campus was started in the year 2006 and is an extension of the Delhi campus for all academic activities. The highly qualified and experienced faculty teaches at both the campuses and the courses and credits are common among the campuses. IIFT also follows a common admission as well as placement process for both its campuses. The Kolkata Campus of IIFT is located in the lush green area of Salt Lake, the modern commercial hub of the City of Joy, overlooking the picturesque salt water lakes of the area.

The facilities at the campus include air conditioned lecture rooms, well equipped conference hall with facilities for video conferencing, a rich library with extensive reading / research material and fully equipped computer centres with latest software applications like SPSS, Clementine, Palisade Decision tools, e-Views and Oracle Developer which aid the students in their various assignments and projects. The campus is Wi-Fi enabled with 24x7 high-speed internet connectivity. Medical facilities are also available on campus round the clock. Construction of IIFT Kolkatas new campus is under way on a 10-acre plot allotted by the Govt. of West Bengal and it is expected to be a state-of-theart campus meeting international standards in the field of MBA education.

Library

The library at the Kolkata campus has subscriptions to a number of unique publications, business journals and magazines including those by IMF, UNCTAD, etc. and has access to comprehensive online databases that help students carry out extensive research. The databases include CMIE, India Stat, World Trade Atlas, WITS and EBSCO. A separate reading room is also available for students to study from their own material during their spare time.

Hostel
MBA (full-time) at the Kolkata campus is a residential program having excellent hostel facilities with an ambience conducive to learning. The hostels are also WiFi enabled with 24x7 high-speed internet connectivity. Medical assistance is available round the clock. The hostel has a fully equipped fitness centre which enables students to stay fit and energetic.

IIFT Exchange Programme is an outcome of the Institutes academic collaboration with some of the leading institutions across the world.

The institute is a member of the following International and Regional Organizations: Academy of International Business (AIB), USA European Foundation For Management Development (EFMD), Brussels International Association of Trade Training Organisations (IATTO), UK United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) HANKEN SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS, HELSINKI, FINLAND We got an opportunity to work on live projects for the Finnish Government and a leading Finnish Telecom company which made the program all the more worthwhile. GRENOBLE ECOLE DE MANAGEMENT, GRENOBLE, FRANCE Studying and rubbing shoulders with students of 13 nationalities at one of the most reputed business schools of France was highly enriching. It was an experience of a lifetime. EDHEC, FRANCE Innovative ways of administering the course and the emphasis on group work provided a unique learning milieu.

Social Awareness Programme (SAP)

Individuals with a sense of responsibility to society are the catalysts for social enterprises and corporate changes.

Realizing this, IIFT has taken the initiative to sensitize its student and make them socially responsive corporate citizens. The Social Awareness Programme (SAP), which is part of the curriculum for the MBA (IB) Programme, brings students face to face with major issues that concern society. Under this initiative, students are affiliated to more than 30 partner NGOs where they learn how to transfer academic knowledge into real-world practice to bring about social change.

At IIFT, students have been working to improve the conditions of the underprivileged, adding momentum to the increasingly growing belief that business is interlinked with society. The success of this programme lies in sensitizing the students on social issues and in the valuable experience they carry with them into the corporate world.

IIFT believes in learning through group work. It inculcates the concept of a TEAM in every activity it endorses.

International Management Forum (IMF) is the official student body at IIFT. It coordinates and provides administrative support to various student bodies and activities. The five member body consists of the President, the General Secretary, the Media coordinator, the Cultural secretary and the Alumni coordinator.

Socrates is the consulting club at IIFT which seeks to equip students with resources to make informed decisions on consulting careers, tools necessary to build successful careers in consulting and opportunities to promote extra-curricular excellence. The club anchors these efforts by creating forums for aspirants to learn and imbibe skills and best practices from industry experts and harnessing initiatives that enable students to assimilate the learning into practical application.

The Finance and Investments Club
Cashonova is the Finance and Investments club at IIFT. The club acts as a platform for finance enthusiasts and conducts discussion and activities that go beyond classroom learning. Koshish excels in cultivating social responsibility amongst the management students. It sensitizes the students towards the problems of the society at large. Quo-Vadis is the 3 day annual Management and Cultural Festival of IIFT which is organized during the third week of November at Delhi. While the telecom sector was dominated by Vodafone, Idea Cellular and Tata Teleservices, the auto sector saw participation from General Motors, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, TVS Motors , JCB and Maruti. Other big recruiters on campus were Whirlpool, SAB Miller, HT Media, Eli Lily, Dr. Reddys, Madura F&L, Raymond, Metro Cash & Carry, DCM Shriram Consolidated Ltd. Capital, Nomura and HSBC-STG. The domestic arena was represented by GE India, Tata Capital, Religare, Darashaw, ICICI Bank, IDBI Federal, Trident Group, Murugappa, ICEX, IIFL.

Final Placements 2009-11


Final placements of the MBA (IB) 2009-11 batch ended on a high note with the average salary standing at Rs. 11.62 lakhs per annum.
The faith of the industry in IIFT was re-affirmed with the participation of 95 recruiters which included 37 first-time recruiters of the likes of Shell, Procter & Gamble, Edelweiss, Citibank, Deutsche Bank and Godrej Consumer Products Limited. Placements were wrapped up with offers being accepted from 76 recruiters. The international placement week saw participation from some of the biggest names in the corporate world such as Olam International, ADM Agro, Aditya Birla Group, Emirates National Bank of Dubai, Valency International, Triton Group and Jumbo Electronics. Prior to this, 27 students were extended Pre Placement Offers. In Sales and Marketing domain, the FMCG industry was represented by traditional recruiters such as ITC, Colgate Palmolive and Perfetti Van Melle. The automobile industry made its presence felt with offers being made by Tata Motors, Hero Honda, Bajaj Auto and TVS motors. The telecom sector was represented by top players like Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular, while the manufacturing sector had offers from Tata Steel, Goodyear and Cummins Group. Notable recruiters in the lifestyle sector included Titan and Madura F&L. The financial sector was well represented by top financial institutions such as Edelweiss, Citibank, Deutsche Bank Operations, HSBC-GBM, Nomura Holdings, ICICI, Axis Bank, Yes Bank, Tata Capital and Religare. Corporate finance profiles were also offered by Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Ranbaxy. Trade, IIFTs core competence, was upbeat with bigger offers this year. Some of the recruiters in this domain were Olam International, ADM Agro, Louis Dreyfus, Valency International, Triton Group and Sara International. Logistics profiles were offered by Daimler, DHL and GATI. Niche consulting and advisory profiles were offered by Corporate Executive Board, Avalon Consulting, Cognizant Business Consulting and Indus Valley Partners. Multinational conglomerates such as Mahindra & Mahindra, L&T, Murugappa, RPG, Avantha Group and Welspun offered placements in their general management cadre.

Trade and Shipping


Loyal recruiters reaffirmed their faith in this domain with Louis Dreyfus making the highest number of offers. Other companies like ADM Agro, NCDEX, ICEX, SARA International, EKA Software, Tata NYK, Industrial Motion International, Inside India and STC offered sought after roles in the trade and shipping domain.

Placement Procedure 2011-2012


Pre-Placement talks will be held from November onwards at the Institute during which the companies make presentations about their operations, job profiles and compensation packages. The date and time slots for interviews during the Placement week will be intimated to the company one week prior to the commencement of the Placement week. Resumes of the interested or eligible students will be dispatched to the company on request. The company must declare the results while on campus.

Summer Placements Procedure 2011-12


Every student is given the option of applying to as many companies as desired. However, he/ she would be out of the placement process as soon as an offer is received. Companies can invite applications for summer jobs either on organizations own application form or through the resume of the students. Internship duration is atleast 8 weeks between April 2012 and June 2012.

Consulting & Strategy


The consulting domain witnessed many niche and sought after profiles being offered by global and domestic players alike. The major recruiters included Deloitte S & O, Global eProcure, Accenture Business Consulting, Cognizant Business Consulting, Corporate Executive Board, QAI Global and Winnow Analytics, amongst many others. Strategy roles in business conglomerates were offered by companies such as Mahindra & Mahindra and Murugappa Group.
