Mechanical Workshop Report

The document discusses various machining tools and processes. It describes dial and digital calipers for precise measurement, taps for cutting internal threads, and files for removing fine amounts of material. It also outlines a machining process where an aluminum plate was milled, holes were drilled, diameters were turned with different tapers and depths, and a hole was made to a specified size.

Dial, and digital calipers give a direct reading of the distance measured with high accuracy and precision.

It is used to remove small amounts of material from surfaces, either to make them smoother, to remove a layer of material, or sometimes to make the surface rougher.

A tap cuts a thread on the inside surface of a hole, creating a female surface which functions like a nut. The three taps in the image illustrate the basic types commonly used by most machinists.

A file is a metalworking, woodworking and plastic working tool used to cut fine amounts of material from a work piece. It most commonly refers to the hand tool style, which takes the form of a steel bar with a case hardened surface and a series of sharp, parallel teeth. Most files have a narrow, pointed tang at one end to which a handle can be fitted.

We started with an aluminum plate that has a dimension of 100 mm by 60 mm, then we mill it a the center in rectangular shape with dimension of 30 mm by 15 mm. Also we drill 4 holes at each corner with a diameter of 5 mm.

Initially the diameter was 20 mm, we turned to 12 mm, and then we turn it with a degree of 30. Than we leave it at 20 mm for 10 mm. After that we made a hole with 3 mm depth for 6 mm.
