Jon> Here is the working Diana. I wanted to send it to you to get your opinion.
While candle magick is deceptively simplistic appearing and is seen by some of the more cynical neo-pagan commenters as "fluffy" I can assure you that it is an old and highly effective and potent magickal technique in its own right. In fact one of my own magical precepts or tenets, is basically 'keep it simple and direct as possible' rule. Magic especially ceremonial - can be complicated and complex with complex incantations and invocations, but one should never disregard this type of working. Some candle workings are in fact solid acts of "ceremonial magick" and can be quite complex or can be very simple. It is well worth the newbie learning solidly or the old-hand, or experienced witch brushing up their own technique on. Not unsurprisingly, it is probably one of the first techniques I would teach to a new initiate or witch if I were mentoring them. Intent This is most important. One needs to have a firm intent, not just a vague or undefined desire. For change to manifest, you have to understand if what you wish to change is capable of undergoing the change in condition you wish for it to manifest. If not, then your working is likely to be unsuccessful or inconclusive because it is not in balance with physical reality and physical laws. For this example lets imagine I am going to do a candle spell or ritual for prosperity. I like the word "prosperity" because it can encase many meanings be it emotional, financially, spiritual etc. One can mean prosperity in a general sense like this, without being vague or you can be specific as in financial prosperity. Tools For this I would choose a small green taper candle. For this example lets assume we will use a green taper candle to demonstrate some of the techniques. You will need 13 sewing needles as well. Oil: I have a specific money drawing oil I like to use from Lucky Mojo.com It is here: http://www.luckymojo.... Incense: This is up to you and your own aesthetics but I would choose to use patchouli and High John the Conquerer stick incense. Herbs: See herb list at the end of the post for choices. Naming or ensigilating the Intent or Desire I like using the method of ensigilating a magical request or petition. This is making the word or sentance into a symbol or not easily recognizable. There are a lot of good reasons to do this, in this way, but that is another topic in and of itself. Lets just assume for the moment this is how I am going to do it.
Many methods of doing this, one could write it out in Enochian, a magical script such as Theban etc. One could do letter substitution or reduction. Lets do letter reduction. PROSPERITY. Eliminate any repeating letters. "PROSEITY" is what this yields. I am inclosing a jpeg of the word PROSPERITY ensigilized and in Runic, Theban and Enochian. Method Get all of your tools and materials assembled. Double check you have everything. I highly suggest creating a sacred space or circle according to your own knowledge, path and spiritual outlook. Once this is done, you can get started. The first place to begin is preparing your green taper candle. The first step in preparing the green candle is marking it. Marking involves inscribing the candle with real or symbolic instructions of its spiritual intention. You might carve the candle with the name of the intent you are working on, or inscribe sacred symbols of Spirits, Planetaries or Elementals to boost its power. I recommend working on your candle at your altar. I recommend you have altar candles lit and incense burning. Remember, the energy you put into preparing the candle is very important. Since I am trying to draw "prosperity", I would carve the word from the bottom of the candle to the top with a toothpick. There are many variations on this. It could be dollar signs or sigils or the symbol of Jupiter which is propitious for money matters..use your imagination and inspiration. Next, I would dress the candle with money drawing oil. I use the logic that "drawing" towards the wick, will draw something to me. I would take the oil and move from the base of the candle to the wick, rotating the candle until it is completely covered in oil. You can use whatever method here you like best however. Next I would apply herbs to the newly dressed candle. I would choose a minimum of 3 herbs from the list below, and grind them to powder. I would then blow them onto the surface of the candle. I would also make a "mojo" or spell bag to put the remaining herbs in at the same time. Measuring the candle is next. Divide the candle into 14 sections. Place the pins in each division going from the bottom up to the wick in that order. Again we are "drawing". The last pin goes in right near the wick. As the candle burns, save the pins and place them in some of the ground herbs you made to powder the candle. Now I would name the candle. There are many variation on this, but the visualization is to give "life" to the candle. Here is what I would do and say. I speak to this creature made by the ancient art of the craft of the wise.
By art made, by art changed. Thou art not wax but flesh and blood, I name you PROSPERITY. You represent drawing prosperity unto me, between the worlds, in all the worlds without harm to myself or others. Sprinkle some dirt or sand on the candle and say - with Earth I give you life. Sprinkle some water on the candle and say - with Water I cleanse you. Quickly and carefully pass the candle through the flame of your altar candle and say with Fire I purify you. Pass the dressed candle through the incense smoke and say , with Air I give you breath and movement out into the Etherium. The exact words are up to you and your own imagination, aesthetics and knowledge. Now place the candle on the petition, sigils and light it. As it burns meditate upon what you have asked for. Keep doing this until the pin falls on the paper. Collect up the pin, put it in the herbs, and extinguish the candle with a candle snuffer or by pinching it..do NOT blow the candle out. You will have to do this for 13 consecutive days. I recommend, setting on the floor or in a chair, after you create your sacred space, and doing a meditation as you burn each section of the candle until the pin drops. It takes some time and patience so stick with it. Now, when you are done with all of this, you can if you wish create a very powerful "mojo" or spell bag with the spells leftovers. Here is how to create a very potent mojo hand with the remainders. It is an awesome way, to wrap up your spell working. A "mojo hand" is a bit different than a mojo bag, in that it has more work in it generally. A mojo bag can just have herbs in it, but a mojo hand will contain whole roots and is meant to be especially powerful and meant to "draw" hence the word "hand". Take your request, and put the pins in it in X's or bundle or roll them up in the paper. Get a piece of green cloth or a large green flannel mojo bag. Anoint the bag or cloth with a few drops of money drawing oil. Place the following on the cloth or bag. Wax left over from the candle The pins and sigil and/or your written intent rolled up The leftover ground herbs you used to powder the candle 1 piece of High John the Conquerer root Some magnetic sand or a loadstone, or a small magnet (available at local pagan shops) Any other object or fetish you wish that relates to your intent - or that spirit calls on you to place in it. Some practitioners place 3-9 silver coins. If you can find Mercury dimes they are believed to be especially potent and powerful.
Bundle the ingredients up and tie up attractively with a white string or ribbon. You can put some feathers in the top of the bag, and pass it over your incense. What you have just created - is a very powerful and potent money draw mojo hand. Keep it on or near your altar, and it will keep doing its job.
