Pedestrian Data Analysis for Overpass Proposal

The document presents data on pedestrian counts at different times of day and calculates daily and hourly averages. It also includes photos of the existing pedestrian crossing location, traffic conditions during rush hours, and loading/unloading areas. Tables show the number of pedestrians varies from 772 to 8488 daily depending on the date. The data indicates a need for a pedestrian overpass to reduce congestion and ensure pedestrian safety. A table also lists suppliers of construction materials like aggregates and hardware in the nearby area.

CHAPTER 3 PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA All the gathered data are done by manual counting the

number of pedestrians. Table 1. No. Of Pedestrians during Rush Hours NUMBER OF PEDESTRIAN DAY TIME 7:30-8:30 AM 12:00-1:00 PM 4:30 -5:30 PM 16-May-13 985 845 1140 17-May-13 1034 913 1250 18-May-13 849 1024 1059 19-May-13 950 798 979 20-May-13 1104 989 1089 Table 2. the average daily head count of

pedestrians along the area which causes an enormous effect in traffic fluidity. This data were taken during vacation so students and

teachers are not taken into account. How much more if this data is taken during school days and if there is also a trade fair which is held at the public markets parking lot. The number of pedestrian will be doubled also the traffic will have greater length than the usual traffic shown in the succeeding figures.

loading and unloading area is one of the factors in the location of the proposed pedestrian overpass. It should be as much as possible the proposed overpass will be near to the loading and unloading area.

Photo 4. Location of Existing Pedestrian Crossing As shown in the figure there no traffic enforcer to

guide/monitor pedestrians when crossing the road which cause the pedestrians accident. There is also no sign indicating the pedestrian crossing which is very dangerous. crossing at their own risk and it may lead to

Traffic congestion also in the area is enormous which cause delay for motorists and commuters. This traffic also often

extends from km.5 to km.4.

Presentation, Analysis and Treatment of Data

28

Most often during rush hours traffic also in this lane is extending from km.5 to km.6 due to the pedestrian crossing and intersection along the area. As shown in the figures and tables presented in the

previous pages the volume of pedestrian is one of the factors causing alteration in the traffic flow along the area. From the data presented, theres a great need of a pedestrian overpass along the area which will minimize the traffic congestion in the area and ensure the safety of the pedestrians. From the same data we also come with the most efficient location of the

proposed pedestrian overpass along the area.
