Protection of Global Climate for Present and future generations of humankind In recent times the International Labour Organization has come to note that climatic change has been a major challenge and a mainstream in our media. Much of humankind is vulnerable to natural disasters, extreme poverty, infectious disease and a host of other challenges. One in six people on the planet subsists on less than $1 a day. The world's population is expected to increase to nine billion by 2050. Human activity is straining the planet's resources, threatening the health of our environment and ability to thrive. Some of the damages of climatic change are- hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, polluted ecosystem from increased levels of melted polar ice and glaciers, floods which has now posed a threat to life and extinction of some species; not only but food shortage and poverty which is not sustainable. Alarmed by the threat posed by climatic change, the International Labour Organization (ILO) has put it as the first in their scale of preference, an urgent task before the International Community in which adaptation, mitigation, Technology and financing remains the key elements to combat this global challenge. However, the political momentum in 2009 in Copenhagen ultimately culminated in adopting one of the most complex international agreement that history has ever seen. The document recognized that climate change is one of the greatest challenges of the present day and that actions should be taken to keep any temperature increases to below 2 C. One part of the agreement pledges US$ 30 billion to the developing world over the next three years, rising to US$100 billion per year by 2020, to help poor countries adapt to climate change. It is necessary for the United Nations to reach agreement on negotiations for a regime for post 2015 which will be binding. The ILO reiterates and recommends that the main action to be taken to protect global climate for present and future generations of humankind rest majorly with developed countries and individual nations commitment of implementing green policies especially in reducing livestock raising, promoting green jobs, promoting organic commercial farming and

adopting a green diet in accordance with the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities as enshrined in the Climate Change Convention. Moreso, the Rio+20 which limits the scope of agreement to voluntary national commitments rather than a binding global political action plan should be reversed. Therefore, we are convinced that through mutual cooperation and understanding that we are all able to make dramatic positive changes concerning the protection of Global Climate which is in line with the Millenium Development Goals, thus securing a sustainable future and making this world a better and habitable place.
