My dear People, A few days ago I was reading Numbers and was reminded that God did institute the principle of retirement for His servants (8:24-26). Once retired, they were commanded not do regular work, but could do work at a scaled down level without being in charge. The letter of this rule of retirement stipulated that Levites were to do their work from 25 to 50. I started work as a pastor at the age of 25. I am now approaching 65. That is, Ive done 15 years more than what the OT Law says. And my retiring at 65 would keep Grace Bible Church aligned with the rule in Protestant denominations in India. I started preaching in youth clubs and writing for Christian magazines when I was 15. I plan to revert to preaching and writing as a freelancer, without any administrative responsibilities after I retire. That was the reason that Roshini and I went to Udaipur in Rajasthan. From last year Id been writing for Christian Trends. The editor is Dr Finny Philip, who is the principal of the Filadelfia Bible College. I asked to be given an opening to teach subjects such as Bible study methods, preaching and writing skills. Dr Philip invited me to go over and see what their work situation is like. They heard me preach and we had some informal business meetings. At the end of it, I was asked to return to do some teaching in July. So, for the next year or so I will be shuttling between Lucknow and Udaipur. Love, Pastor Kuru
