The Jones Journal

to 25, 50 and 75 too, for your child to receive a special treat and recognition for their progress. Your childs DIBELS scores from January are in this weeks Friday Folder on a letter from Mrs. Snyder and Mrs. Bagwell. Please call me if you have any questions or concerns about these numbers. We are extremely lucky to have a practicum student from Auburn University this semester! Kristin Byrd will be with us Tuesday and Thursday mornings until the end of the year. She will be implementing certain required components of AUs Early Childhood Education program. I know that Kristin will do a wonderful job!

Colman and Dongik read The Mitten to each other.

THE PAST TWO WEEKS WE

read THE HAT, THE MITTEN, GINGERBREAD BABY, THE GINGERBREAD MAN, THE GINGERBREAD BOY, THE JACKET I WEAR IN THE SNOW and THE SNOWY DAY. We discussed how you can read two books about the same story but there are some differences. There can be some things that are alike and some things that are different. The children learned what a venn diagram is and we filled out one for two different versions we read of THE GINGERBREAD MAN.

NEEDED
Thank you so much to everyone who sent in all purpose surface cleaning spray for our classroom! We will continue to need throughout the year to clean our tables after lunch. It seems to get the tables cleaner than the disinfecting wipes we have.

DATES TO REMEMBER
February 25 Marcos Pizza Night (for kindergarten)

PARENT READING
This weeks reading is titled Developing Geometric Thinking through Activities That Begin with Play. This article discusses the rich and stimulating instruction in geometry that can be provided through playful activities with mosaics such as pattern blocks or design tiles. It includes an interesting mosaic puzzle to describe activities at various developmental levels and how the activities can help develop children's geometric thinking. Ive also included a hardcopy of this puzzle in todays Friday Folder ; however, if you signed up for the Paperless Classroom Communication option, the reading can be found on the right side of our blog under Suggested Parent Readings.

FYI
We will not have a class Valentines Day party on February 14; however, if your child would like to address Valentines Day cards for everyone in our class, I have included a list of names (on back) with this newsletter. Although this is not mandatory, it can be a wonderful authentic writing opportunity for the children. There will be time during that day for them to deliver any treats and/or cards they have brought. Dont forget that January journals are being sent home today. PLEASE remember to return it Monday. Thank you so much!! This is just a reminder that Count on Reading is an all-year program. You may turn in your childs form at anytime through the end of the year. The goal is 100 books, but please send in the form when you get

Heres some advice as your child is addressing their Valentines Day cardsmany cards fold and end up with the To and From on the inside. If you will fold the cards with that part on the outside, your child wont have as much trouble reading the names and delivering to their classmates.
