SOUNDBITE (English), Brigadier Dick Olum, AMISOM Ugandan Contingent Commander: This spot is the second bridge from Beled Amin; this is the bridge between Qoryooley and Beled Amin where our main detachment is. Now these guys after having been beaten in Qoryooley yesterday, they resorted to IEDs. I think the IED is going to be one of their weapons of preference at the moment. What has happened here is that they planted an IED right off this bridge and put the remote controlled battery that detonates the IED and the person who detonated the IED was just in that bush there, all he needed to do was to wait for a vehicle to get here and he presses the remote controlled detonator. And the

bomb went off and we lost one Casspir (APC) and we are towing it back. 17. Wide shot, shrapnel from the IED 18. Close up, shrapnel from the IED 19. Med shot, shrapnel from the IED 20. A Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Device (RCIED) went off near a convoy during a routine patrol to secure a main supply route used by the towns residents. The soldiers then came under fire, which they promptly responded to, engaging the insurgents in a brief firefight before repelling them off. Now these guys after being beaten in Qoryooley yesterday, they resorted to IEDs, said Brig. General Dick Olum, the Uganda Contingent Commander while visiting the scene of the IED explosion adding that the soldiers fought back and were safe. The explosion damaged one of the troops Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) but did not cause any deaths or injuries. The soldiers are all safe; they fought back their way and here we are towing back to the base. It is something we shall keep expecting but we are really prepared for it with the EOD (Explosives Ordnance Detection) team, added Brig. Olum.
