Future

Tense

The future tense is used to describe something that will or shall happen. The future
tense is one of the easier tenses in Spanish to conjugate, because for the most part, we
are only adding an ending to the infinitive form of the verb.

By the future tense, we are not expressing the willingness to do something; for this we
use the present tense form of querer. The future tense can, however, be used to express
a probability or wonder from the perspective of the present.

Quin ser ella?
Who could she be?

Estar viajando solo.
He is probably traveling alone.

For expressing events that will happen in the near future, we use the following form:

Esta noche voy a ir al cine.
Tonight Im going to go to the movies.

If we are talking about something further into the future, we use the regular future
tense:

El ao que viene, ir a Espaa.
Next year, I will go to Spain.

Regular verbs in the future tense, as mentioned before, are conjugated by adding the
following endings to the infinitive form of the verb:

yo
-
t
-s
el/ella/usted
-
nosotros
-emos
vosotros
-is
ellos/ellas/ustedes
-n

This applies to all of the ar, -er, and ir verbs:

hablar
comer
vivir
yo
hablar
comer
vivir
t
hablars
comers
vivirs
el/ella/usted
hablar
comer
vivir
nosotros
hablaremos
comeremos
viviremos
vosotros
hablaris
comeris
viviris
ellos/ellas/ustedes
hablarn
comern
vivirn

Of course, there are irregular verbs, but only with the stem of the verb, so all the
endings are the same as that of regular verbs.

Above are the more commonly used irregular verbs. Any compound verbs based on
them are also irregular, and have the same irregularities as their original forms:

e.g. Obtener (to obtain) is based off of tener (to have).

I will have = tendr
I will obtain = obtendr

Resaber (to relearn) is based off of saber (to know):

We will know = sabremos
We will relearn = resabremos

Deshacer (to undo) is based off of hacer (to do):

He will do = har
He will undo = deshar
