1. Heat Up The Oven
2. Grease & Flour The Pans
3. Dry Mixture
Preheat the oven to 350F. Gather
all the ingredients and equipment.
Butter and sprinkle flour on two
9-inch round cake pans. Cut and
place wax paper onto the bottom
of the pan for easy removal.
Measure and sift together baking
soda, flour, cocoa powder and salt.

Mix butter and sugar with a electric
mixer until light and fluffy. Whip
together eggs, buttermilk, food dye
and vanilla extract. Gradually beat
in dry mixture on lowest speed.
Finally, mix together vinegar and
baking soda. While fizzing, add to
the cake batter and stir well to
combine. Work quickly to divide
the batter evenly between the cake
pans and place in oven.
Set a timer for 25 to 30 minutes.
Check back often; the cake is done
when a toothpick inserted in the
center comes out clean and easily.

Let cakes cool inside of their pans
for at least 10 minutes. To remove
the cakes from the pan, place a
wire rack on top of the cake and
invert. Then gently lift off the pan.
To create the frosting, combine
cream cheese, powdered sugar
and vanilla extract. After cakes
have cooled, apply the frosting
liberally using a spatula.
Serve cake at room temperature.
Pair with ice cold milk for a smooth
and savory finish.
