Scope and purpose
This course covers the proper ways of operating auxiliary machineries such
as Steering Gear, Deck Machineries such as windlass and mooring winch,
cargo winch and boat winch. Fluid flow and characteristic of major system.
Purifier and fuel oil treatment. Air compressor operation and maintenance.
Evaporators and distillers operation and maintenance. Refrigerator operation
and maintenance. The purpose of the course is to assist maritime training
institutes and their teaching staff in organized and introducing new training
materials where the quality and effectiveness of the training courses may
thereby be improved. STCW Code Part A Chapter 111 Table A-111/1
Intended Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course the students must be able to:
C.1 Properly operate, maintain and trouble-shoot auxiliary machineries
such as steering gear, windlass and mooring winch, cargo winch, boat winch,
Oil purifier and fuel oil treatment, air compressor, evaporators and distillers
and refrigerators. Described fluid flow and characteristic of major system.

Course Framework
Trainers and course developer
The course shall be developed and conducted by competent instructors. This
course should be developed and conducted by Engineer Officers
(Operational/Management level) with watchkeeping experiences, holder of
IMO model course 6.09 & 3.12.
Entry standards
This course is open to all high school graduates who are physically and
medically fit for future seafaring jobs, and has successfully passed the
entrance examinations and officially enrolled.
Class limitations
The maximum number of students for lecture class should be fifty (50) and
during practicum or laboratory workshops the maximum number of students
should be 25 per session and an assessor must assess all laboratory outputs.
Assessors
The Assessor must be a license holder of OIC in Engineering, a holder of IMO
model course 6.09

Teaching facilities and equipment
The course requires regular classroom facilities, including a whiteboard and a
power point projector.

There will be four grading periods:
Inclusive of (Seat works, Board works, Assignments, Quizzes and Periodical
Examination)
Preliminary
Middle Term
Prefinal
Final (Addl requirerment: portfolio)
The examination date will be schedule based on the approved college
calendar. Each examination room is composed of only twenty five (25)
students and one (1) proctor. The duration of the examination is one and a
half (1.5) hours and student should not be late beyond fifteen (15) minutes
otherwise he will take special exam in the testing center.
The students must score at least 75 % in order to pass in the examination. If
he fails the examination, attend the remedial class and redo the
examination.
