4 - Structural Documentation (1)
Definition
Structural Documentation is the documentation of the
capabilities of the finished structure, optionally
supplemented with the capabilities in the execution phase.

4 - Structural Documentation (3)
A1 Project Basis
Among other things the Project Basis must:
Form a consistent basis for the design of the structure.
Describe the main form, shape and use of the structure.
Describe the main static principle of the building along with main
structural points such as: robustness, fire, usage.
Include and define the basis for the design: codes, materials, loads etc.
Provide access to an understanding of the structure and how it works.
4 - Structural Documentation (4)
A1 Project Basis
The Project Basis has a standard layout in order to be consistent from
one project to another.
The Project Basis does not include structural calculations.
Sections and information which are not relevant is omitted/erased
The Project Basis is formulated at the start of the project and is
adjusted during the design phases on an as-needed basis.

A2 Structural Calculations
Structural Calculations:
Must document that the structures are in complience with the
Building regulations, Codes and other regulations.
Are one or more technical documents which documents the above
complience by calculations, references or inference.
4 - Structural Documentation (23)
A2 Structural Calculations
Structural Calculations is devided into :
A2.1 Structural calculations the Structure
A2.2 Structural calculations Segments
4 - Structural Documentation (24)
A2.1 Structural Calculations The Structure
Structural calculations The Structure contains the general structural
calculations for the entire structure
I.e. in form of:
Main structural system for vertical and horizontal loads
Determination of loads, section forces and reactions from the
individual structural members / segments.
Vertical and horizontal load take-down
Robustness if calculations are needed
General documents used by several structural parts/members
4 - Structural Documentation (25)
A2.2 Structural Calculations Segments
Structural Calculations Segments is divided into 3 parts:
1. A summary of Project Basis Segment along with the supplements the
Segment Designer have to the Project Basis Segment.
2. General structural calculations for the Segment.
3. Structural calculations for the Segment.
If the Building designer is also designing the segment he/she only needs to
do item 3/

A2.2 Structural Calculations Segments or members

Project Basis Segment
The reasons for doing the document Project basis Segment is that the relevant
segment is to be designed by another organisation and this document then gives
the basis for design. I.e. concrete elements to be designed by the producer.
The contents of Project Basis Segment are drawn from pertinent sections in:
A1 - Project Basis
A2.1 Structural Calculations The Structure
The latter, since the loads influencing the structural segment may be derived
from the overall structural calculations for the structure.
Project Basis Segment
It may be an advantage, to a certain extent, merely to let the
Project Basis Segment comprise cross-references and referrals to
information in the Project Basis and Structural Calculations Structure, as redundant information then is avoided. Redundant
information which notoriously can be difficult to keep updated
throughout the duration of the design phase.
Project Basis - Segment is an independent document, which often
forms an integrated part of relevant work specifications for the
segment in question, reference is made to Cuneco Tool for Work
Specifications.

A2 - General remarks about Structural calculations
Unusual calculation methodes, or methodes not generally used
must be documented.
You do not need to calculate every single structural member, but the
members you do calculate must be typical and cover the
remaining members
Simplifications must be substantiated, and must be on the safe
side.
The interaction between members must be taken into account
(i.e. closely spaced piles)

A3 Structural drawings and -models
Structural drawings and models are the
documents/files which states/shows the geometry
of the load carrying structural members
4 - Structural Documentation (40)
A4 Changes in the structures
Changes in the structures describes and documents the
changes in the structural members which have done after both
A1 and A2 have been finalized i.e. changes occuring on the
building site during the execution phase.
