Water Resources Handouts

The document summarizes key aspects of water resources including the water cycle, watersheds, and various water forms. The water cycle describes the constant movement of water through evaporation, transpiration, condensation, and precipitation processes powered by the sun. Watersheds are land areas where water flows and collects in streams and tributaries, influenced by vegetation, slope, soil type and rainfall. There are many forms of water on Earth including oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, streams, springs and others that make up the 71% of Earth's surface that is water.

Water Resources

Water Resources

Water Cycle
:a cycle where water is constantly cycled through the
atmosphere, ocean, and land.
Processes Involved:
1. Evaporation - changing of liquid into gas
2. Transpiration - the process of evaporation from
plants
3. Condensation - changing of gas into liquid
4. Precipitation - the returning of water into Earth's
surface
Other terms:
Sun - changes liquid into gas
Clouds - formed when water vapour condenses
Groundwater - water that is absorbed into ground
Runof - water that collects in streams

Watersheds

Watersheds

:an area of land on a slope

How it works?
Water that precipitates will flow in the watersheds
until it will return into streams.
Tributaries - small streams that supply water into
main streams
Factors Affecting the Amount of Water in the
Watersheds:
1. Vegetation Cover
2. Slope of the Area
3. Kind of Soil
4. Amount of rainfall

Water Forms
Concept: Planet Earth is composed of 71% water ang
29% land.
1. Ocean - widest and largest body of water in the
world.
World Oceans: Pacific (largest), Atlantic, Arctic,
Indian, and Southern.
2. Sea - salty body of water.
3. Lake - body of water surrounded by land.
4. Channel - wide body of water found between
islands.
5. Waterfalls - water from high places.
6. Strait - narrow body of water which separates two
large land forms.
