Ring distributor
Consider a ring distributor with only one point of
feeding.
For calculations it is same like a straight
distributor with both end feeded with equal
voltage.

Ring main distributor with
interconnector
In very large distribution area far located
points are connected together using
interconnector.
Thevenin is used to solve the circuit.

7
Ring main distributor with
interconnector
Find the voltage across the points that are
connected together.
Eth
Find the resistance seen from those points
Rth
If Rbd is the resistance of interconnector then
Current in BD = Eth/(Rth+Rbd)

Current distribution in 3 wire DC
system
120 A enters the A port
130 A comes out of the negative outer B.
130 120 = 10 A must ow in the neutral
at point N.

Balancers in 3 wire DC system
It is difficult to maintain balanced voltage at both
ends.
It is because the current in neutral makes the
voltage on the neutral different.
Two identical shunt wound motors in series.
Only 1 generator is required. Cost effective.
Dr.Sher

Balancers in 3 wire DC system
Speed of both motors is equal so equal back
emf.
Under unloaded or balanced load condition
the motors run as unloaded motors.
Under unbalanced conditions one of them act
as a generator.
E.g I1 > I2 then pd across Motor A falls below the
emf of balancer set.
So A act as generator

Boosters
A DC series generator to compensate IR drop in
the feeders.
Voltage generated is proportional to the field
current which is feeder current.
When feeder current increases , voltage drop
increases, this also increases the voltage output
of generator and hence compensation is done.
Each feeder can be regulated independently.
