Data Review Notes
Attendance
When we look at our attendance trend last year, we noticed that we had our best attendance at the beginning and end of
the year. Our attendance was lowest in February, with a trend of low attendance from January through April.

MCA
From review of our MCA data, we noticed that 5th grade had the highest proficiency levels for reading and math.

Comprehensive Needs Assessment

Standards-Based Literacy Instruction CNA

Successes
For 5th grade, 15% of students were proficient on the Reading MCA. For 3rd grade, 10% of students were proficient on
the Reading MCA.

Prioritized Concerns
4% of 4th graders were proficient in reading and our overall percentage of third through fifth grade students was at 9%
proficient on the Reading MCA.

Hypothesized Root Causes (Controllable)

We did not shift our reading plan for our students as quickly as was necessary to improve reading outcomes.

Standards-Based Math Instruction CNA

Successes
Our 5th grade had 15% proficient on the Math MCA.

Prioritized Concerns
Third grade had 7% proficient and fourth grade had 4% proficient on the Math MCA.

Hypothesized Root Causes (Controllable)

We have not fully focused our resources on supporting and coaching guided math.

Engagement CNA

Successes
Successes include 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade with higher attendance numbers in level A. 1st and 3rd grades have the
lowest numbers of students in attendance level D. For ethnicity, our Asian/Pacific Islander students have the best
attendance with no students in level D.

Prioritized Concerns
Concerns include attendance for pre-K, High 5, and Kindergarten. Our Hispanic students had the lowest attendance
overall. Our American Indian student attendance also had high numbers in level D.

Hypothesized Root Causes (Controllable)

Due to our start-up over the past 2 years, we have not established concrete systems to focus on and support
attendance.

Literacy Plan
Goal
The percentage of all students who earn an achievement level of Meets or Exceeds the Standards on the Reading MCA
at Cityview will increase from 9.4% in 2016 (based on current enrollment) to 14.4% in 2017.

Action Plan

Targeted Student Groups:

African, African American, American Indian, Asian/Pacific Islander, Hispanic, White

observe veteran teachers who are implementing it with a tool for observing. Provide time for new teachers to meet with
veteran teachers to ask questions. Informal observations and modeling of lessons by the literacy specialist to provide
support. Provide support for read alouds and guided reading.

Adult Evidence to Collect:

Using the Practice Protocols for observations of practice to determine level of implementation. Use look-fors established
last year.

Student Evidence of Success:

"Students will demonstrate growth in proficiency levels, independent and instructional levels will increase using the F &
P, growth on the benchmarks."

Professional Development or Support Needed:

Literacy specialist coaching. Provide PD on each component of Balanced Literacy. Provide additional support and PD
to new teachers and Associate Educators.

Current Stage:

Action Step #1

Actions Implemented:
Literacy specialist has provided PD on balanced literacy, guided reading, and independent reading to all teachers.
Tableaux has been embedded into literacy as a comprehension strategy, and support has been provided over the
course of 7 days through PD, modeling, and coaching. Our Literacy Specialist has modeled in all classrooms the
mini-lesson with grade level content standards. Modeling has also include accountable talk and EL strategies, such as
sentence stems, turn and talk, and front-end loading of vocabulary.

Evidence of Adult Implementation:

Literacy specialist has observed charts for mini-lessons with learning targets. Teachers are engaging students in
accountable. Teachers have begun guided reading groups and independent reading routines are established.
Teachers are incorporating Tableaux into different aspects of their day, including literacy and morning meeting.

Evidence of Impact on Students:

Students are using accountable talk in their discussions when observed. Students are able to follow the routines and
procedures related to guided reading rotations.

Summary of Impact:
The impact of our work has primarily been on teacher practice. Our Literacy Specialist has been informally observing for
independent reading and evidence of the practice profile work.

Next Steps:
Teachers will continue to refine their guided reading blocks and differentiate to meet the varied needs in their
classrooms. Our Literacy Specialist will observe each classroom during guided reading and provide follow-up coaching.

Mathematics Plan
Goal
The percent of all students who earn an achievement level of Meets or Exceeds the Standards on the Math MCA at
Cityview will increase from 7.7% in 2016 (based on current enrollment) to 12.7% in 2017.

Action Plan

and planning to make learning meaningful and differentiated for our students.

Adult Evidence to Collect:

We will collect data using the practice profile and look fors through formal and informal observations.

Student Evidence of Success:

"Students will demonstrate growth in math as evidenced by the benchmark, formative assessments, MAP testing, and
MCA testing. Students will demonstrate ability to use math language and vocabulary."
