Re: Maggie Dietrich

Dear Director of Human Resources,

I am pleased to be writing this letter in support of Maggie Dietrich and her application to
your Board of Education. I have had the pleasure of being Maggies drama education
instructor and her faculty advisor for her final Mount Royal University practicum. I
continue to be impressed with her commitment to the academic, pedagogical, and
pragmatic aspects of the teaching profession.

Academically, Maggie is an exemplary student. Her written assignments consistently

show an understanding of the depth and breadth of 21st century learning and teaching.
She displays an understanding of the many approaches to facilitating and assessing
learning through in-depth class discussions and well-rounded assignments.

From a pedagogy stance, Maggie already shows understanding of the importance of

planning for learning and the need to create a class community. Her lesson and year plans
incorporate curriculum but contain a sense of the need for flexibility intrinsically woven
throughout. Her commitment to pedagogical thought along with her ability to translate
this into practice will serve her well as she enters her own classroom.

Over her final practicum in a grade four classroom, I observed Maggie developing the
pragmatics of classroom management. She was aware of the individual student needs in
her classroom and reflected on best practice for engagement of all students. She was open
to suggestions given by both her partner teacher and myself, and she implemented those
suggestions in the next lesson.

In your school, you will find that Maggie is a team player. She is always prepared, on
time, and ready to take on any task. She will bring a positive energy to your school and
be well received by administration, colleagues, and students.

If you would like to speak with me further, please feel free to contact me at any time.

Sincerely,

Dr. Colleen Whidden
