What is in a Magic Cup?
By Dietetic Intern: Zachary Neveu
Magic Cup is a product manufactured by Hormel Health Labs
It is an ice cream consistency when frozen but a pudding like
consistency when thawed. Typically, ice cream could not be
served to someone who has to eat thickened s liquids such as
nectar thick or honey thick as when it turns to liquid in their
mouth it becomes a thin liquid.
Magic Cup is a way for those on thickened liquids to still
enjoy ice cream without risk of aspiration.
At the Elliot Hospital we currently have two flavors of Magic Cup, Vanilla and Orange
Cream. The nutritional information is almost identical for both, the Orange Cream does
have 1 more gram of sugar.
