Penguin On Vacation

This children's book tells the story of a penguin who goes on vacation to the beach but finds that many of his usual winter activities like sledding don't work in the sand. He befriends a crab who shows him how to have fun by building sandcastles and surfing waves. They have so much fun that the crab goes with the penguin back home to experience sledding in the snow. The book uses realistic illustrations to compare the beach and snow scenes and show the new activities and friendship between the penguin and crab.

Penguin on Vacation

This Childrens picture book uses

realistic artistic styles. It illustrates actual places.

The book shows palm trees on the beach, and

sledding down a snowy hill. All things you

can do.

Feelings developed aesthetically would be, to begin with the penguin is bored and wants a

vacation. However, even with change of scenery and being at the beach it was not what the penguin

expected. Penguin could not sled or skate on sand. Penguin then found Crab, he showed penguin how to

have fun in the sand. They built sandcastles and surfed the waves. They became friends. Aesthetically

then you feel the happiness Penguin is feeling with Crab on his vacation. The story goes on explaining

Penguins vacation had to end and go home. Crab went with Penguin to his snowy home and Penguin

showed him all the things to do in the snow. You feel happy about the friendship they had created and

all the new things they have learned to do.

This book has many visual elements it compares snow to sand. The sand was hot to penguin, by

adding ow from Penguins face you can imagine the pain his feet felt from standing on it. Also, with

the words splash describing the waves crashing into shore.

I enjoyed this book, the pictures are big and bold. This book can help simulate other questions

for you to discuss with children. Could the penguin have stayed at the beach? Crab in the snow? You

can also talk to a child about their feelings if they are bored what other things could they do?
