Q F (X) Xe at X

This document contains instructions for 3 questions on a numerical analysis assignment. Question 1 asks to construct Taylor polynomials and compute error bounds for approximations of f(x)=xex2. Question 2 asks to find a Taylor polynomial, compute error bounds, and approximate two functions using the polynomial. Question 3 asks to use bisection and fixed point iteration methods to solve 5 equations and compare the results.

|f (x) − P4 (x)|, f or 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.4

Q2 : Find the second order Taylor polynomial , compute the error bound and approximate f(0.5)
and g(0.5) on the interval [0, 1]

f (x) = ex cos(x),
g(x) = ex sin(x)

Q3 : Use bisection and Fixed point iteration method for each of the following equations, determine
an interval of convergence, estimate the number of iterations necessary to obtained approximation
accurate to within 10−4

(a). f1 (x) = (x + 2)(x + 1)2 x(x − 1)3 (x − 2),

(b). f2 (x) = x2 − ex − 3x + 2,

(e). f5 (x) = cos(x) + sin(x) − x
